Pounders since you're such a GOOD catholic, why don't you recite 5 hail mary's, 4 our father's use your rosary as an enima and proceed straight to hell. You're about as christian as a compost pile.

Absonite, for standing up for me, you are a true friend, and you are wiser than anyone knows. I don't deserve any of those comparisons, I am flawed, not wise at all, and I accept that. I will always have questions, but it seems I will never have any real answers.

Bluducky, thank you very much as well. I know you're trying to help, but I don’t believe that Norman or anyone else should be punished for their comments. We must treat hatred with understanding, we must get at the root cause of contempt. Only by showing others the depth of our sincerity can we ever hope to encourage them to lay down their guard, and show us their true hearts. If there is evil in everyone, surely there is good in everyone as well, and I would honestly like nothing to be done on my behalf.

You were missed here and I look forward to your return. But you need not feel responsible for anyone, it is enough that you are here.

I wish everyone to understand, we gain nothing by hurting one another. Each time I see that happen, something in me just suffers a little more. Hurt me if you have to, I'd rather each of you direct your anger at me than at each other, but I will never return pain with more pain. There is enough suffering in the world, and no matter who you are, know that you are not going through it alone and that you can be my friend. Even the angriest of you, I will take for my friend, because maybe it is you who need a friend most of all.

Ishtar, thank your for your wise council. Each time I re-read my words, then hear of your own personal burdens, it makes me feel the smaller for placing so much importance upon my own troubles. I have always tried to help people needier than me. Actually, I help anyone in my life who wants my help at all. Often, I wonder if I am actually doing any good for anyone, there is so much pain and I feel so much futility.

Jade, Vlad is a good person and has a very investigative mind, and deserves more courtesy than you have shown him here. He isn’t trying to be mean, that is actually what he happens to believe in, and the more differing points of view we have around here, the better.

Vlad, leave if you feel you must, but don’t feel you won’t be missed. You will be missed, at the very least, by me. And I will forever be your friend whether you actually want to be my friend or not.

Dawn, how can you even say that to him when he has spent two days telling you how stupid you are? I’m sorry, a person must have some pride.

No. I’m not proud at all. And I want everyone to know I don’t care what names I am called here. I wish all of you could learn to see behind the words to the reasons why we might say them. They are just words, people. We are, each of us, each other.

The next time any of you want to say anything bad to one another, say it towards me instead. I will gladly accept take all the hostility here myself if ends up breeding more peace around here.

I love Vlad as my brother, we have a bond that the rest of you won’t understand. I will never be him, nor shall I ever convince him to be me, but, as long as I live, I promise, he will never be alone.

Norman may have a point, even if he doesn't express it with nicities. If Dawn is having frequent bouts of depression (which she seems to admit) then she might really be sick, e.g. clinically depressed. Dawn, have you thought about seeking professional help?

Back to the topic. Dawn's question implicitely assumes that someone put us here for a reason. If no one put us here then there is no meaning to life. At least not one assigned to you. I suppose you can resign yourself to a fate that may not even exist, but I would suggest choosing your own meaning of life!

Norman,

If "The Cathlic Church, for instance, preaches abstinence before marriage and sex is a thing to be shunned unless one happens to be married."And you happen to be a good Catholic (smile face quite appropriate).......
then why have you sexually molested so many little boys and allowed it to go on for so many years and covered it up for so long and when receiving complaints you merely transferred the deviates to another church? Why are you against gay marriage if so many of you are queer?

Whatever point Norman was trying to make was doubtless done out of meanness and spite and we should not honor it, and him, by discussing it here.

As for our "purpose," and meaning, well, it's up to each individual person to decide their own meaning.

existance only has meaning if something was accomplished that an individual can be proud of. It doesn't matter how insignificant or profound. From a thought to a deed, the mark you leave on this world is you. The lives you touch, most likely without even knowing it, by your actions and words leave an impression that carries on well after your absence.

What can I say.

Aristotle said he learned a lot by coming here. I suppose I have, too, Dawn, from you. A lot of people post things that make you think here. You are one of the few here that make people think about their feelings for one another.

And you’re also one of the few people here that has my genuine respect. Especially with the way you put up with all this b.s.

Dawn, I have been reading of your plight the last two days and you have my sympathies. I know we might have had our run-ins in the past, but I would like to advise you. First, here is a book that you might want to read that will help you with your troubles:

The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren

Second, you need to get yourself married. Having a man to guide you would solve all of your probems. I am not sure what sort of a decent man would marry a hedonist like yourself, but that is my suggestion. Return to the chuch, participate in church social events, there you will perhaps find a decent man to lead you back down the moral path once again. Be honest with him about your past, though, since God hates lies.
