Every religion has its hypocrites Catholics are just more obvious about it. I'm Catholic myself and have made the observation personally.

Religion in and of itself was probably started by exo-humans to help this planet climb out of its downfall. However politics will screw up anything well intended. Hence the decline of religion of organized religion around the world.
Despite all this people remain spiritual. You'd be suprised how many ex-Catholics join many non-denominational masses. Thereby maintaining the message but not getting into the politics.
