I've had trouble locating Nereus for various reasons.  One of them is that he appears to interact with Achilles and Trojan war participants.  I'm relooking at this one.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphitrite
So the Poseidon in this story is Aegeus, father of Theseus, wishing to marry the daughter of Nereus, who runs off to the Atlas mountains.  That makes Nereus 1 gen earlier than Aegeus, and contemporary with the "Sons of Metion" in Athens. [1343-1320BC].  If that's the case, he is contemporary with Horemheb in Egypt, and the biblical Nahor in Israel; Nahor is a close name, as the greeks add s's.  This is 2 generations before Abraham, who is Ibiranu II in Ugarit.  This Nereus could theoretically appear in the Amarna letters, since the timeframe aligns.

Horemheb is supposedly the last builder in Avaris, before stuff gets moved to Pi-ramese.  This theoretically could sneak in at the last minute.

We said that King Tut was Phaethon, and I thought the story ended there; it's theoretically possible that this story continues one last generation after Tut.
Note: Aye is between Tut and Horemheb.

Off-topic: I've previously looked for a Jupiter Aethiopis around this time, for the islands of the blessed.

https://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/articles/1701-aram-naharaim
"The name is not found in Babylonian or Assyrian inscriptions, but occurs as Nahrima in three of the El-Amarna letters. Nahrima is associated with the Hittites—a fact which confirms the view taken above."

If Phaethon is a pharaoh, King Tut, then it is possible that Nereus is a pharaoh as well.  With the story of Perseus's daughter in Aethiopia, and knowing that Avaris is renamed to Aethiopia... and seeing a Nereid named Clymene, which looks like Chaeramon or Menkaure or Smenkkhare.... it makes sense that this is an Amarna-era pharaoh.  Knowing that Horemheb rebuilt Avaris, I'm thinking he's Nereus.  This would be a symbolic name, like Hatshepsut is called Libya.  This would seem to imply Mitanni lineage for Horemheb.  I'm unaware of a consort named Doris, or a consort from the city of Dor.

So that's the theory, now I need more evidence.  Now the 50 Nereids is just a penteconter of girls... to marry off and create Egyptian ties... including Amphitrite in Athens.

Horemheb has a campaign from Byblos to Carchemish; Carchemish was a Mittani city, that fell to the Hittites under Akhenaten.  So he does have a campaign into Mitanni territory.  This is similar to Thutmose III being called Belus after a Syrian campaign.

So that's a start... we know that Horemheb is Nereus... that this was a sea campaign and not a land campaign, that he rebuilds Avaris and calls it Ethiopia, and that he was warshipped at the island of Cos as Jupiter Aethiopis.

I have another old unproven theory linking Ay or Ay It Netjer to Athanatos.

Off-topic: Studying why Hatshepsut was called Libya.
Note: One of the surnames of Athena is Athena Onga, of unknown meaning.  Onga=Ankh.  This is Hatshepsut.

When the tribute was exacted from the oasis dwellers and sent to Hatshepsut, it was certainly from the Tehenu. 16 It is therefore assumed that the Egyptian government in the XVIIIth Dynasty sought to centralize the collection of tribute from the Tehenu. The chief of 'all the oasis country' is mentioned in the Egyptian records. This is assumed to be an honorary title created for the occasion of collecting tribute for Hatshepsut. 17

...
"Queen Hatshepsut, wife of Thutmose II, was ordered by the god to strike among the Tehenu,82 but it is highly probable that this divine order was recorded after its fulfilment. 83 This queen claimed that her empire extended from the third cataract on the Nile to the Euphrates. She announced her frontiers, saying: 'My western boundary is as far away as the mountain of Manu[the sun-set]... my fame is among the sand-dwellers altogether .... I brought the tribute of Tehenu[Libya], consisting of ivory and seven hundred tusks which were there, numerous panther skins....'84"

Off-topic2: Busiris is the son of Poseidon and Libya, and those 2 are Thutmose 2 and Hatshepsut.

So that places the Egyptian Heracles around the time of Thutmose 3; I think that's him.

On Busiris, I think he's "overseer of the cattle". I think he's Amenemhat B.

We've said Helios is Akhenaten.  That makes his parents: Amenhotep 3 and Tiya.  In greek mythology, we see Hyperion and Theia.  Tiya=Theia.

Horemheb is linked to Tauret, ie. Doris.
