If Phaethon is a pharaoh, King Tut, then it is possible that Nereus is a pharaoh as well.  With the story of Perseus's daughter in Aethiopia, and knowing that Avaris is renamed to Aethiopia... and seeing a Nereid named Clymene, which looks like Chaeramon or Menkaure or Smenkkhare.... it makes sense that this is an Amarna-era pharaoh.  Knowing that Horemheb rebuilt Avaris, I'm thinking he's Nereus.  This would be a symbolic name, like Hatshepsut is called Libya.  This would seem to imply Mitanni lineage for Horemheb.  I'm unaware of a consort named Doris, or a consort from the city of Dor.

So that's the theory, now I need more evidence.  Now the 50 Nereids is just a penteconter of girls... to marry off and create Egyptian ties... including Amphitrite in Athens.
