Irish aviation authorities are investigating reports from multiple pilots of a strange object on November 9th.
The incident began at 6:47am when the pilot of British Airways flight BA94, which was flying from Montreal to Heathrow, contacted air traffic control in Shannon to report the sighting of a UFO.
"It was moving so fast," she said. "It came up on our left-hand side and then rapidly veered to the north. It was a very bright light that disappeared at very high speed."
Several other airline pilots in the general vicinity also reported seeing something unusual.
One Virgin Airlines pilot, who had been flying from Orlando to Manchester, described it as a "meteor or another object making some kind of re-entry", but went on to add that there were actually "multiple objects following the same sort of trajectory - very bright from where we were."
According to reports, air traffic control was not able to pick up anything on radar and there were no scheduled military exercises or operations in the area at the time.
The Irish Aviation Authority has since stated that an investigation in to the matter is underway.
An audio transcript of BA94's conversation with air traffic control can be found - here. (17mins in)
