The funeral director

By: Ikabard | Location: Hebburn, England

(This story took place over 10 years ago, it's one I'll never forget as it happened to me when I was around 13 years old and completely opened my mind to the unknown.)

It was a very bright morning in my old house, it was fathers day, I remember this very clearly as I was up and in my parents room which is next to mine and had just given him his card and after that I was playing on the stair landing area with a toy car. It was a very sunny day and everything was very clear and visible, but as I was playing with my toy it rolled off the stairs which is where the events unfolded.

(Our staircase in our old house was a sort of U shape, so from the landing you went down then turned right for a few steps then back on yourself to the ground floor, which had a door before it opened up into the living room area.)

The toy car fell down the stairs and went all the way down and around - probably just a coincidence - so I went down the stairs to retrieve it and as I got half way and was stood at the mid section of the stairs looking down into the living room I was completely rooted in place.

(This to me is the strangest bit of the experience, as it was extremely bright and sunny, all the rooms where extremely well lit, the door into the living room was already open after my mother being down in the morning before me, and my parents were at max 3 metres away from and talking to each other.)

After a few seconds of being rooted in place, a male figure walked straight past the doorway from the right to the left, he was a dark grey transparent figure walking past and he was not blurred or anything and was wearing what I could only describe as a funeral directors outfit, black blazer, black top hat, smart pants, I would certainly say he looked more victorian style then modern.

He seemed to just walk completely past the door way, he didn't look at me, or anything of the sort, it seemed just like a replay of events as he seemed to be very clear on where he was going, but even still the sight of him put me into flight mode which had me running up the stairs to my parents room and uncontrollable screaming, which I remember as its a surreal experience feeling such fear that you genuinely don't feel like it was you controlling your body running away and it was your body controlling your legs.

The sighting really confused me and still does to this day, the sighting of the figure I guess happens to a lot of people, but the more confusing bit was how I felt that enormous pressure which rooted me to stop and stare before he appeared - that is the one thing which really seems unique in my sighting which I haven't seemed to have read anywhere else.

From this experience it got me interested in paranormal cases from that early age and one theory for paranormal sightings I had read many times is the Stone tape theory and it made me wonder if the feeling of being rooted was caused by the initial release of energy for a stone tape type replay, as the feeling I got from the figure I saw was that it felt like a replay, he didn't acknowledge me, or look elsewhere, he seemed to replaying his own story.

The house in which this happened in was also brand new, we were the first family to live in it and by then it was perhaps 6 years old, but as stated it did seem a victorian style outfit, our house was built over "Leslies Sports Field" in my home town of Hebburn (North East England) which was a sports field so not entirely sure if there was a relevant link, though there is a cemetery about 5 minutes walk in the direction he was walking, but I do understand many people of the victorian era did dress relatively smart so he may have just been a smartly dressed man.

I still wish to this day what would have happened if my body didn't go into flight mode, and I followed him, what was he doing? where was he going? Did he mean for me to see something, or did I miss a message ?

Very creepy story. I would say it was something paranormal; obviously. Maybe something between a ghost (since it was transparent), and a Shadow Person...? Since he was dressed Victorian, maybe he was someone who lived there years and years before his family moved in there. To add to that, the house was old, so that's a possible chance about a ghost or shadow person who lived there years before they moved in, then died...
