14:15. Lima, Feb. 03. A total of 4,150 cultural heritage artifacts found in Argentina have returned to Peru, which is the largest batch of cultural goods recovered so far, the Foreign Affairs Ministry informed.

3,898 of the total were recovered by legal process in Buenos Aires after being seized from art collectors and traffickers in 2000.

The repatriation of these pre-Columbian goods, recovered on January 28, took place within the signing of the Agreement for the Protection, Conservation, Recovery and Return of Stolen or Illegally Exported or Transferred Cultural, Archaeological, Artistic and Historical Property.

This great collection marks a significant moment in the country’s cultural heritage recovery process, since it involves pieces of high historical value and archaeological relics in different styles and material such as metal, textile, wood, pottery, bone remains and organic fiber.

This is a historic moment in Peru-Argentina bilateral ties, as it evidences the high level of relations and shows the Chancellery and Culture Ministry’s commitment to get illegally-exported assets back.
