I saw that documentary, Andrew, it was a pretty cool one!

Each gangster tried to outdo the other each time they had a funeral.

About the weather in 1929, of course, scientific methods in terms of climatology weren't that advanced back then, so, of course they didn't know what was going on.

Having said that, though, even though 1929 may have had some weird weather, the 1930's had some of the hottest days on record of the 20th Century.  The Dust Bowl of 1934, for instance, was brought on by drought.

At any given year, we could have cooler temps or warmer ones, but the overall trend is "up," since about 1950,  if I remember correctly.
