A very interesting city is ancient Lixus, founded in 700 BC and one of the most easterly and isolated outposts of the Phoenician, Carthaginian and Roman Empires. Well, well beyond the Pillars of Hercules in the region of the fables Hesperides, Lixus would have given wonder to coast hugging sailors of what was beyond its western watery horizon.

If Atlantis existed, Lixus would most certainly have been one of it's colonies!

From what I have read, excavations point to the earliest evidence of occupation dating to Phoenician settlement starting 2700 years ago. So it is relatively young in an ancient sense. What is unique about it is its westerliness and its isolation. Not all the site has been excavated and it is rich in opportunity. If evidence is found predating Phoenician then we can draw conclusions about cultures that would have been concurrent to those of Atlantean legend. Morrocco is full of neolithic monuments such as dolmens, standing stones and stone circles. I do not know if any have been found near Lixus but given their pervasiveness, I would not be surprised.

Dear.............MANUNTIUS,

PORT LIXUS
has a Somalian counter-City in the HORN of East-Africa
where Odysseus visited the TALL lacedemonians or LESTRINGONES
(= Elephant-People )

By a cartographic ERROR in 220 bc
All geographic inscriptions of Ethiopia moved to NW- Africa
including the Piollars of Hercules and even the Sources of the Nile were
placed in the Atlas mountains which were originallt the MOON- Mnts of Ethiopia.

General Hasdrubal wanted the Romans to think

that SPAIN was the original" Mighty"ATLANTIS
So he renamed an existing town GADIR as CADIZ
and Cartagena as Carthago- Nova" Atlantis capital"

SPAIN as the Original ATLANTIS ?   Huh
King FERDINANT-1 used the same ploy in 1500 to " Twart"
the legigimacy of the Tordesiklias Treaty of 1489.ad.

Sincerely " BlueHue " dd 18 Nov-2008
