A COMMENTARY OF IBN UMAIL

HERMUS said the secret of everything and the life of everything is Water.... This water becomes in wheat, ferment; in the vine, wine; in the olive, olive oil.... The begining of the child is from water.... Regarding this spiritual water and the sanctified and thirsty earth, HERMUS the great, crowned with the glorious wisdom and the sublime sciences, said [#1] Truth it is, indubtible, certain and correct, [#2] that the High is from the Low and the Low is from the High. They bring about wonders through the one, just as things are produced from that one essence by a single preparation. Later by his statement [#4] Its father is the Sun and its mother the Moon he meant their male and their female. They are the two birds which are linked together in the pictures given regarding the beginning of the operation, and from them the spiritual tinctures are produced. And similarly they are at the end of the operation. Later in his statement [#7 ?] the subtle is more honourable than the gross, he means by the subtle the divine spiritual water; and by the gross the earthly body. As for his later statement [#8] with gentleness and wisdom it will ascend from the earth to the sky, and will take fire from the higher lights, he means by this the distillation and the raising of the water into the air. As for his later statement [#8a] It will descend to the earth, containing the strength of the high and the low, he means by this the breathing in (istinshaq) of the air, and the taking of the spirit from it, and its subsequent elevation to the highest degree of heat, and it is the Fire, and the low is the body, and its content of the controlling earthly power which imparts the colours. For there lie in it those higher powers, as well as the earthly powers which were submerged in it.

The natural operation and decay causes it to be manifest, and hence the strength of the earth, and of the air, and of the higher fire passed in to it. Later he said [#9] it will overcome the high and the low because it in it is found the light of lights: and consequently the darkness will flee
from it. [See Stapleton et al. p 74, 81.]

6) to whom is seid the increat fader, tresour of myracles, and yever of vertues.
7) Of fire is made erthe.
7a) Depart the erthe fro the fire, for the sotiller is worthier than the more grosse, and the thynne thynge than the thik. This most be do wisely and discretly.
Cool It ascendith fro the erth into the heven, and falleth fro heven to the erthe, and therof sleith the higher and the lower vertue.
9)And yf it lordship in the lower and in the heigher, and thow shalt lordship aboue and beneth, which forsoth is the light of lightes, and therfor fro the wolle fle all derknesse.
10) The higher vertue ouer-cometh all, for sothe all thynne thyng doth in dense thynges.

Motion or change, and identity or rest, are the first and second secrets of nature: Motion and Rest. The whole code of her laws may be written on the thumbnail, or the signet of a ring. The whirling bubble on the surface of a brook, admits us to the secret of the mechanics of the sky. Every shell on the beach is a key to it. A little water made to rotate in a cup explains the formation of the simpler shells; the addition of matter from year to year, arrives at last at the most complex forms; and yet so poor is nature with all her craft, that, from the beginning to the end of the universe, she has but one stuff, — but one stuff with its two ends, to serve up all her dream-like variety. Compound it how she will, star, sand, fire, water, tree, man, it is still one stuff, and betrays the same properties.

So Tristan, you wrote a lot; now tell me where these wonderful Emerald Tablets are located. Have they ever been seen by any knowledgeable person? To the best of my research they are only talked about and in no means distant past either. There is no verification of their actual existance.

Thoth wrote 3,600 works. Some say he wrote 44,000.

Then Thoth musta been born with two books and a typewriter to start with; or else they must have been very short books. Actually books are a very recent invention. Where are all of these magnificent tomes. I'm sure many people would like to read them. Are they preflood or post flood? "Some say he wrote 44,000 books." Who the heck is "some"? Is that Harry Some the second hand book dealer down on second street? Can you show even one original writing by Thoth?

Of course, the Emerald Tablets exised, Brig, the originals were lost, and yet copies of them have been found dating from the ninth century on, with copies existing in Latin and Arabic. One of the translations of those copies was performed by Sir Isaac Newton.

As for the actual existence of Thoth, it is immaterial whether we actually possess something written in his original hand or not. We don't have any originals of Plato, Aristotle or Socrates and yet are quite certain that he existed. Let us give Thoth, the Atlantean, God-King of Egypt, the same respect.

I have to fall on the side of pessimistic here. I heard about this tablet not long ago, and searched and searched for a real picture and for some real history behind it. All I found was delusions and fraud tbh.

The Divine pymanmder of Hermes Trismegistus
(pymander= poemandres)
by The Editors of the Shrine of Wisdom
1st printing 1923,2nd 1935,3rd 1948, 4th 1955

Chapter 1
This manual represents an endeavour to systematize and unfold something of the significance of the writtings attributed to Hermes Trismegistus.

The numerous profound truths which the Corpus Hermeticum contains are not easily recognizable from a general perusal of them in the form in which they are usually presented.

The extant Trismegistic literature consists of the Pymander collection of fourteen sermons;the definition of Asclepius,or the perfect sermon; the twenty-seven excerpts from John Stobaeus(including a sermon entitled "The virig of the world") and of many fragments and referances from the philosophers and the church fathers.

This is all that remains of what was evidently an extensive literature. No precise date can be assigned as to when it first saw light, but many of the early church Fathers accepted the Trismegistic writings as both ancient and authoritative, sometimes utilizing them to support Christian doctrines; while the philosophers,in whose work they appear, did not question their authenticity.

Some of those who quoted from them were: Iamblichus,Justin Martyr,Tertullian,st.Cyprian,Eusebius pamphilus, Clement of Alexandria,Lactantius, st. Augustine,st. Cyril od Alexandria,Suidas, and Julian the Emperor.and nearly all the spiritual Humanists of the middle ages ranked them, especially the Pymander,in the very first list of religious literature.
The extracts contained herein are not taken from any one paricular version, but are the results of a comparison of three Engish translations, namely, by JohnEverard,D.D., 1650; J.D. Chambers,1882; and G.R.S. Mead, 1906.

The references quoted herein are as used in the last version. But it must be admitted here that in the Trismegistic fragments there is much that requires considerable elucidation. This can be only very partially attempted in this manual, which has for it's objects the emphasis of the more primary and important fundamental truths contained in the Corpus Hermeticum rather than the full explanation of secondary points and the reconciliation of all the real or apparent inconsistencies.

was he one, or many,merging
Name and fame in one,
Like a stream, to which,converging,
Many streamlets run?

who shall call his dream fallacious?
Who has searched or sought
All the unexplored and spacious
Univers of thought?

Who,in his own skill confiding,
Shall with rule and line
Mark the border-line dividing
Human and divine?

Trismegistus! Three times greatest!
How thy name sublime
Has descended to this latest
progeny of time !

Longfellow.

During the middle ages a great number of fraudulent writings were concieved by learned but money hungery "scholars". These tracts supposedly written by magicians, ancients, etc. were sold to the wealthy and royals. Much money was made on these books and manuscripts which were not worth the paper and ink they were scribbled on. One such manuscript still circulates and is still bringing huge sums of cash. I cannot remember the name of it; but I'm sure that some of you out there know which one I am referring to.No one has been able to break its code; possibly because there was no code. So one must be careful that his source is not fraudulent.Because a paper or parchment is old does not make it factual.

Exactly. Everyone wants wealth to escapte from uncertainty and so we get many fraudulent artifacts in history. I would be more impressed if the knowledge in these "sources" was straight to the point instead of woven into elaborate poems. They seem to be like Astrology in that most have a lot of words and a whole multitude of meanings.

"You or someone you know, may meet someone with dark or light hair at some point in the future. They may bring you happiness if you feel the time is right"

That kind of thing is what fraudulent ancient texts and pseudoscience is all about.

Lets just throw everything away and start over. Ok God, we are ready...lets go. No one is really trying here anyway, because they cannot discern that they exist anyway. They know not from where they issue and could care less. It is time to clean this place up.

If one were to look in their own mirror and realize the awesome fact that they exist and know they exist because they see, hear, smell, taste, smell, feel and intuit their being...Oh, well — we never were.
