The impression I get is that they were most likley made of JADE.
The Egyptian Priests wore Jade pendants around their necks which was believed to have been imported from Punt.

One story has it that the Emerald Tablets found their way to S.America which some say were responsible for Mayan advancements. Apparently around 1937, if I recall correctly, they were returned to Egypt.

These Jade pendants should reflect a religous tradition carried over from Atlantean Priests which most likely was contributed to their arrival from Thoth somwhere around 12,000-10,000 bC.

I have a feeling that they're hidden somewhere around Thebes or the Island of Phla.

I have seen beautiful nephrite jade from the area bordering Afghanistan and Pakistan, ranging in color from black to green to brown. Nothing though, that might be construed to be "emerald" or even "emerald green".
The same mountains (Hindu Kush I think)where the ancient lapis lazuli digs are.

Originally posted by Tristan in the Atlantuis forum. More on the Emerald Tablet later:

The History of Thoth, The Atlantean

I, THOTH, the Atlantean, master of mysteries,
keeper of records, mighty king, magician,
living from generation to generation,
being about to pass into the halls of Amenti,
set down for the guidance of
those that are to come after,
these records of the mighty wisdom of Great Atlantis.

In the great city of KEOR on the island of UNDAL,
in a time far past, I began this incarnation.
Not as the little men of the present age did
the mighty ones of Atlantis live and die,
but rather from aeon to aeon did they renew
their life in the Halls of Amenti where the river of life
flows eternally onward.

A hundred times ten
have I descended the dark way that led into light,
and as many times have I ascended from the
darkness into the light my strength and power renewed.

Now for a time I descend,
and the men of KHEM (Khem is ancient Egypt)
shall know me no more.

But in a time yet unborn will I rise again,
mighty and potent, requiring an accounting
of those left behind me.

Then beware, O men of KHEM,
if ye have falsely betrayed my teaching,
for I shall cast ye down from your high estate
into the darkness of the caves from whence ye came.

Betray not my secrets
to the men of the North
or the men of the South
lest my curse fall upon ye.

Remember and heed my words,
for surely will I return again
and require of thee that which ye guard.
Aye, even from beyond time and
from beyond death will I return,
rewarding or punishing
as ye have requited your truest.

Great were my people in the ancient days,
great beyond the conception of the
little people now around me;
knowing the wisdom of old,
seeking far within the heart of infinity
knowledge that belonged to Earth's youth.

Wise were we with the wisdom
of the Children of Light who dwelt among us.
Strong were we with the power drawn
from the eternal fire.

And of all these, greatest among the
children of men was my father, THOTME,
keeper of the great temple,
link between the Children of Light
who dwelt within the temple and the
races of men who inhabited the ten islands.

Mouthpiece, after the Three,
of the Dweller of UNAL,
speaking to the Kings
with the voice that must be obeyed.

Grew I there from a child into manhood,
being taught by my father the elder mysteries,
until in time there grew within the fire of wisdom,
until it burst into a consuming flame.

Naught desired I but the attainment of wisdom.
Until on a great day the command came from the
Dweller of the Temple that I be brought before him.
Few there were among the children of men
who had looked upon that mighty face and lived,
for not as the sons of men are the
Children of Light when they are not incarnate
in a physical body.

Chosen was I from the sons of men,
taught by the Dweller so that his
purposes might be fulfilled,
purposes yet unborn in the womb of time.

Long ages I dwelt in the Temple,
learning ever and yet ever more wisdom,
until I, too, approached the light emitted
from the great fire.

Taught me he, the path to Amenti,
the underworld where the great king sits
upon his throne of might.

Deep I bowed in homage before the Lords of Life
and the Lords of Death,
receiving as my gift the Key of Life.

Free was I of the Halls of Amenti,
bound not be death to the circle of life.
Far to the stars I journeyed until
space and time became as naught.

Then having drunk deep of the cup of wisdom,
I looked into the hearts of men and there found I
greater mysteries and was glad.
For only in the Search for Truth could my Soul
be stilled and the flame within be quenched.

Down through the ages I lived,
seeing those around me taste of the cup
of death and return again in the light of life.

Gradually from the Kingdoms of Atlantis passed waves
of consciousness that had been one with me,
only to be replaced by spawn of a lower star.

In obedience to the law,
the word of the Master grew into flower.
Downward into the darkness turned the
thoughts of the Atlanteans,
Until at last in this wrath arose from his AGWANTI,
the Dweller, (this word has no English equivalent;
it means a state of detachment)
speaking The Word, calling the power.

Deep in Earth's heart, the sons of Amenti heard,
and hearing, directing the changing of the flower of fire
that burns eternally, changing and shifting, using the LOGOS,
until that great fire changed its direction.

Over the world then broke the great waters,
drowning and sinking,
changing Earth's balance
until only the Temple of Light was left
standing on the great mountain on UNDAL
still rising out of the water;
some there were who were living,
saved from the rush of the fountains.

Called to me then the Master, saying:
Gather ye together my people.
Take them by the arts ye have learned of far across the waters,
until ye reach the land of the hairy barbarians,
dwelling in caves of the desert.
Follow there the plan that yet know of.

Gathered I then my people and
entered the great ship of the Master.
Upward we rose into the morning.
Dark beneath us lay the Temple.
Suddenly over it rose the waters.
Vanished from Earth,
until the time appointed,
was the great Temple.

Fast we fled toward the sun of the morning,
until beneath us lay the land of the children of KHEM.
Raging, they came with cudgels and spears,
lifted in anger seeking to slay and utterly destroy the Sons of Atlantis.

Then raised I my staff and directed a ray of vibration,
striking them still in their tracks as fragments
of stone of the mountain.

Then spoke I to them in words calm and peaceful,
telling them of the might of Atlantis,
saying we were children of the Sun and its messengers.
Cowed I them by my display of magic-science,
until at my feet they groveled, when I released them.

Long dwelt we in the land of KHEM,
long and yet long again.
Until obeying the commands of the Master,
who while sleeping yet lives eternally,
I sent from me the Sons of Atlantis,
sent them in many directions,
that from the womb of time wisdom
might rise again in her children.

Long time dwelt I in the land of KHEM,
doing great works by the wisdom within me.
Upward grew into the light of knowledge
the children of KHEM,
watered by the rains of my wisdom.

Blasted I then a path to Amenti so
that I might retain my powers,
living from age to age a Sun of Atlantis,
keeping the wisdom, preserving the records.

Great few the sons of KHEM,
conquering the people around them,
growing slowly upwards in Soul force.

Now for a time I go from among them into
the dark halls of Amenti,
deep in the halls of the Earth,
before the Lords of the powers,
face to face once again with the Dweller.

Raised I high over the entrance, a doorway, a gateway
leading down to Amenti.

Few there would be with courage to dare it,
few pass the portal to dark Amenti.
Raised over the passage, I, a mighty pyramid,
using the power that overcomes Earth force (gravity).
Deep and yet deeper place I a force-house or chamber;
from it carved I a circular passage
reaching almost to the great summit.

There in the apex, set I the crystal,
sending the ray into the "Time-Space,"
drawing the force from out of the ether,
concentrating upon the gateway to Amenti.

Other chambers I built and left vacant to all seeming,
yet hidden within them are the keys to Amenti.
He who in courage would dare the dark realms,
let him be purified first by long fasting.

Lie in the sarcophagus of stone in my chamber.
Then reveal I to him the great mysteries.
Soon shall he follow to where I shall meet him,
even in the darkness of Earth shall I meet him, I,
Thoth, Lord of Wisdom, meet him and hold him
and dwell with him always.

Builded I the Great Pyramid,
patterned after the pyramid of Earth force,
burning eternally so that it, too,
might remain through the ages.

In it, I builded my knowledge of "Magic-Science"
so that I might be here when again I return from Amenti,
Aye, while I sleep in the Halls of Amenti,
my Soul roaming free will incarnate,
dwell among men in this form or another. (Hermes, thrice-born.)

Emissary on Earth am I of the Dweller,
fulfilling his commands so many might be lifted.
Now return I to the halls of Amenti,
leaving behind me some of my wisdom.
Preserve ye and keep ye the command of the Dweller:
Lift ever upwards your eyes toward the light.

Surely in time, ye are one with the Master,
surely by right ye are one with the Master,
surely by right yet are one with the ALL.

Now, I depart from ye.
Know my commandments,
keep them and be them,
and I will be with you,
helping and guiding you into the Light.

Now before me opens the portal.
Go I down in the darkness of night.

When it's said "One story has it that the Emerald Tablets found their way to S.America which some say were responsible for Mayan advancements". Just a correction: Maya civilization was in Central America (Honduras-Mexico-Guatemala)not in South America where many cultures blossomed there...but different. Errors like these can't be swallowed indifferently, it would be like saying Sioux or Cheyenne were living in Chile! Besides this, the information provided is very interesting and I do appreciate, folks.
I would like to know if this Esmeral Tablet has anything to do with Moses experience as mentioned in Exodus 24:9-11 , please read it.It's mentioned the entity embassador of God (compare with Acts 7:30, 35, 38)was standing upon saphire floor. Sefer and saphire is also book or telling stories in Hebrew and tradition says that stone (that eventually was used before the 10 commandments) was as hard as diamond but could be bend like a scroll. Torah was supposed to be written in that saphir first. It was heavy, unbearable to be lifted in specific moments. Chapter 25 is interesting too:

Anyone can teach us something about possible link between saphire and esmerald tablets?

I brought Veronica's thread forward to confirm the actual existence, best we can know of the Emerald Tablet. Another forum member claims it does not exist. Perhaps not anymore, but I am convinced it did once.

The Spear of Longinos and the Ark of the Covenant haven't been found either and yet we few doubt their existence because they are listed in ancient accounts. Same thing with the Emerald Tablet.

The following information comes not from me, but Wim van den Dungen, the author:

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 History and legend of Hermes Trismegistus.

Thoth was among the most diverse and popular deities of the Egyptian pantheon. He is attested in the Old
Kingdom (ca.2670 - 2205 BC) and was regarded since the most primitive period as the god of the Moon.
Hence, Thoth derived much of his authority from being the secretary and counsellor to the Sun god Re (the
light of the Moon being the light of the Sun). He became the regulator of time and individual destinies (cf.
the importance of the phases of the Moon in Egyptian national life).

He also presided over the temple cults, in particular the sacred rituals, invented writing and was the lord of
wisdom. His temple was erected in Hermopolis. His occult powers, dealing with healing and protection,
were considerable (for his speech had creative power). Thoth owed his popularity with ordinary people,
because of his role as guide of souls and divine scribe on the day of judgement.

This strong devotion continued throughout the Ptolemaic and Roman periods, i.e. when Egypt had entered
its Late Period and was Hellenized. Both Jewish settlers as well as Greeks tried to establish some link with
Thoth (the second-century BC romancer Artapanus assimilated Moses to Thoth !).

The Greeks, who started to settle in Egypt under Pharaoh Amasis (570 - 526 BC), associated Thoth with
Hermes. The latter was also linked with the Moon, medicine, the realm of the dead, inventiveness, trickery
and functioned as messenger of the gods. Hence, in the Hellenistic period, Thoth became the "word" or
"logos", interpreting the divine will to humanity. The Lycaonians saw in him the apostle Paul and the Stoics
regarded him both as "logos" and demiurge.

Legend has it that the Tabula was found in a cave by Apollonius in Egypt (near Alexandria ?) in the first
century AD, inscribed on a plate of emerald, held by the corpse of Hermes Trismegistus. In other legends
(told by Albertus Magnus), Alexander the Great found it (in the third century BC). In Jewish lore, it was
Sara, the wife of Abraham, who found the Tabula near Hebron !

Balinas has been identified with Hermes Trismegistus himself, the "second" Hermes being Akhenaten and
the "first" Thoth. In Islamic tradition, the antediluvian Thoth is associated with Idris ("exalted to a lofty
station"), who lived between the eras of Adam and Noah and who wrote books that revealed the divine laws
to humanity.

1.3 The historical text part of the Jabirian corpus.

Abu Musa Jabir ibn Hayyan ("Jabir" or Westernized as "Geber") was born at Tus in 721 or 722 AD (shortly
before his father, a druggist, was beheaded & impaled by political adversaries, for he supported the
Abbasids against the then ruling Ommayads).

Jabir belonged to the South Arabian Al-Azd tribe, which had settled down at
Kufa, in Iraq. He studied the Koran, literature, history and became the friend
of the *****e religious leader and Sûfî mystic Ja'far al-Sadiq, who introduced
him into things mystic & occult. This made him turn towards alchemy.

In middle life, he is well established as an alchemist at the court of the
Abbasid caliph Harun al-Rashid (cf. Arabian Nights). Around 803 (with the
downfall of his patrons), he retires at Kufa and is said to have survived until
the accession of caliph Al-Ma'mun (from 813 AD). Another source has it that
he died at Tus in 815 AD.

He wrote extensively, but in many cases books are ascribed to Jabir which
cannot have been written by him.
An idealized image of Geber from the Codex Ashburnham, Florenze, end 15th century.

As late as 1923, Holmyard discovered the abridged Arabic text of the Tabula Smaragdina in Jabir's Second
Book of the Element of the Foundation. Before this discovery, the text had only been known in medieval
Latin.

2. A variety of versions of the Emerald Table.

2.1 Two Arabic versions : Jabir and Balinas.

The first version was found by Holmyard in 1923 in the Second Book of the Element of the Foundation,
attributed to Jabir. It dates from the 8th century AD.

"Balinas mentions the engraving on a table in the hand of Hermes, which says :

'Truth ! Certainty ! That in which there is no doubt ! That which is above is from that which is below, and
that which is below is from that which is above, working the miracles of one. As all things were from one. Its
father is the Sun and its mother the Moon. The Earth carried it in her belly, and the Wind nourished it in her
belly, as Earth which shall become Fire. Feed the Earth from that which is subtle, with the greatest power. It
ascends from the Earth to the heaven and becomes ruler over that which is above and that which is
below.'

And I have already explained the meaning of the whole of this in two of these books of mine."

Jabir (attributed to) : Second Book of the Element of the Foundation, middle 8th century AD.

Ruska discovered another longer Arabic version, said to have been dictated by Sergius of Nablus, in a
book called Book of the Secret of Creation and the Art of Nature (Kitab Sirr al-Khaliqa wa San 'at al-Tabi'a
which was also called : Kitab Balaniyus al-Hakim fi'l-'Ilal or Book of Balinas the wise on the Causes), written
as early as 650 BC and definitely finished by the time of the caliphate of Al-Ma'mun (813 - 833). A Syriac
source has been suggested, but none of these contain the Tabula.

"Here is that which the priest Sagijus of Nabulus has dictated concerning the entrance of Balinas into the
hidden chamber.

'After my entrance into the chamber, where the talisman was set up, I came up to an old man sitting on a
golden throne, who was holding an emerald table in one hand. And behold the following -in Syriac, the
primordial language- was written thereon :

Here (is) a true explanation, concerning which there can be no doubt. It attests : the above from the below,
and the below from the above - the work of the miracle of the One. And things have been from this primal
substance through a single act. How wonderful is this work ! It is the main (principle) of the world and is
its maintainer. Its father is the sun and its mother the moon. The wind has borne it in its body, and the
earth has nourished it. The father of talismen and the protector of miracles whose powers are perfect, and
whose lights are confirmed (?). A fire that becomes earth. Separate the earth from the fire, so you will
attain the subtle as more inherent than the gross, with care and sagacity. It rises from earth to heaven, so
as to draw the lights of the heights to itself, and descends to the earth ; thus within it are the forces of the
above and the below ; because the light of lights within it, thus does the darkness flee before it. The force
of forces, which overcomes every subtle thing and penetrates into everything gross. The structure of the
microcosm is in accordance with the structure of the macrocosm. And accordingly proceed the
knowledgeable.

And to this aspired Hermes, who was threefold graced with wisdom. And this is his last book, which he
concealed in the chamber.'"

2.2 The Latin version of Kunrath.

The Latin text probably first appeared in Europe in editions of the Secretum Secretorum, the Latin
translation of the Book of Advice to Kings (Kitab Sirr al-Asar) by Johannes Hispalensis ca.1140 and by
Philip of Tripoli in ca.1243. Other translations may have been made during the same period (by Plato of
Tivoli, Hugh of Santalla and others). Albertus Magnus (Book of Minerals) mentions the Tabula. The version
chosen here, was published by Kunrath in 1609.

"Verba Secretorum Hermetis.

Separabis
terram ab igne, subtile a spisso, suaviter, cum magno ingenio. Ascendit a terra in coelum, interumque
descendit in terram, et recepit vim superiorum et inferiorum. Sic habebis gloriam totius mundi. Ideo fugiet a
te omnis obscuritas. Hic est totius fortitudinis fortitudo fortis ; quia vincet omnem rem subtilem, omnemque
solidam penetrabit. Sic mundus creatus est. Hinc erunt adaptiones mirabiles, quarum modus est hic.

Itaque vocatus sum Hermes Trismegistus, habens tres partes philosophiæ totius mundi. Completum est
quod dixi de operatione Solis (var. de magisterio solis)."

Kunrath, H. : Amphitheatrum Sapientiæ Æternæ, Hanau, 1609, plate of the Emerald Table.

2.3 The Latin & English version of Isaac Newton.

Newton's interest in Hermetism lay in the antiquity of these texts. He believed strongly in the doctrine of
"pisca sapienta", and considered the more ancient documents as less corrupted. Hermes was an "Authores
optimi", who incarnated the knowledge of things ancient, arcane and prophetic.

Separabis terram ab igne, subtile a spisso
suaviter magno cum (diligentia) ingenio. Ascendit a terra in coelurn iterumque descendit in terram & recipit
vim superiorurn & inferiorum. Sic habebis gloriam totius mundi et fugiet a te (tenebrae) omnis obscuritas.
Haec est enim totius fortitudinis fortitudo fortis. Nam vincet omnem rem subtilem omnemque, solidam
penetrabit. Sic Mundus creatus est. Hinc erunt adaptiones mirabiles quarum modus est hic.

Itaque vocatus sum Hermes Trismegistus habens tres partes philosophiae totius mundi. Completum est
quod dixi de opere solari."

(Newton found similar Latin version in the six-volume Theatrum chemicum which he purchased in 1669.)

"Tis true without lying, certain & most true. That wch is below is like that wch is above & that wch is above
is like yt wch is below to do ye miracles of one only thing. And as all things have been & arose from one by
ye mediation of one : so all things have their birth from this one thing by adaptation. The Sun is its father,
the moon its mother, the wind hath carried it in its belly, the earth is its nourse. The father of all perfection in
ye whole world is here. lts force or power is entire if it be converted into earth. Separate thou ye earth from
ye fire, ye subtile from the gross sweetly wth great indoustry. It ascends from ye earth to ye heaven & again
it descends to ye earth & receives ye force of things superior & inferior. By this means you shall have ye
glory of ye whole world & thereby all obscurity shall fly from you. lts force is above all force. For it
vanquishes every subtile thing & penetrates every solid thing. So was ye world created. From this are & do
come admirable adaptations whereof ye means <arrow upward> (or process) <arrow downward> is here in
this.

Hence I am called Hermes Trismegist, having the three parts of ye philosophy of ye whole world. That wch I
have said of ye operation of ye Sun is accomplished & ended."

2.4 The French version of Fulcanelli.

Fulcanelli : Les Demeures philosophales, Pauvert - Paris, 1965, pp.247-249 :
