ILLIGITIMI NON CARBORUNDUM

Thus ye may find in thy mental and spiritual self, ye can make thyself just as happy or just as miserable as ye like. How miserable do ye want to be?......For you GROW to heaven, you don't GO to heaven. It is within thine own conscience that ye grow there.

Say, does this place serve beer, too, or did I walk in the wrong door?

There is the faint scent of something illegal emanating from a booth in the corner, the television is on displaying America's latest tragedy (to our shame), and  there is a big fat harry guy from Texas pounding on the door (wearing some rigging).  Smiley

I think I'll play the jukebox...somebody loan me quarter ...thanks

It's nine o'clock on a Saturday
The regular crowd shuffles in
There's an old man sitting next to me
Making love to his tonic and gin

He says "Son can you play me a memory?
I'm not really sure how it goes,
but it's sad and it sweet and I knew it
complete when I were a younger man's clothes."

Bridge: la la didi daa
la la didi daa
daa dum

Chorus: Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
We're all in the mood for a melody
and you've got us feeling alright

Now John at the bar is a friend of mine
he gets me my drink for free
and he's a quick with a joke
or to light up your smoke
but there's someplace that he'd rather be

He says "Bill, I believe this is killing me,"
as the smile ran away from his face
"well I'm sure that I could be a movie star
if could get out of this place."

Bridge: la la didi daa
la la didi daa
daa dum

Now paul is a real estate novelist
Who never had time for a wife
And he's talking with Davey who's still in the Navy
and probably will be for life

And the waitress is practicing politics
as the businessmen slowly get stoned
Yes they're sharing a drink they call loneliness
but it's better than drinking alone

Chorus: Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
We're all in the mood for a melody
and you've got us feeling alright

It's a pretty good crowd for a Saturday
And the manager gives me a smile
'Cause he knows that it's me they've been coming to see
To forget about life for awhile

And the piano sounds like a carnival
And the microphone smells like a beer
And they sit at the bar and put bread in my jar
And say "Man, what are you doing here?"

Bridge: la la didi daa
la la didi daa
daa dum

Chorus: Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
We're all in the mood for a melody
and you've got us feeling alright

Billy Joel  Piano Man

Hmm, this is nice.  Oops, *knocks a monster off my leg* little buggers.  You feed them once, they follow you everywhere.  They're worse than strays . . .

I bring in my boombox and begin playing Nine Inch Nails, "Closer."  Someone yells to me, "turn that crap down!!!"

I say, "make me."

Somebody picks up my boombox and hurls it through a window with a gigantic crash!

I have to run back out into the parking lot and see it it's alright.

Increased security at school today.  Things could have been worse, I suppose.  All those kids could have been killed from a terrorist attack and Bush would have used it to try and get four more years...

You know, for a story that has domintated the news all day long, it is surprisingly short on details...

Yeah, thank god an Islamist didn't do it in the name of allah, or the rightwingers would run roughshod over our rights. Now lets hope, since it was just a nut with a gun, that the leftwingers don't try to run roughshod over our rights.

btw, I love the Piano Man. And beer. The coffeshop needs to put in some Sam Adams or some Stella Artois bottles. Or some Bud.  Or both. Beer and Bud. Smiley

In the back of the room, I sit, strumming my guitar, a flock of guys sitting at my feet, hanging on my every word (each one of them, of course, hoping they'll get some).

Off in a corner, Michelle is sitting there, crying, getting consoled by Curt because someone slugged her and she now has a bloody nose (boy, did that feel good!)
