Chavez: US fuels unrest in Venezuela
Mon, 11 Feb 2008 11:07:07

Chavez blames US for fueling unrest in Venezuela.
Chavez has accused the US of seeking to destabilize Venezuela through arming Colombian drug traffickers and paramilitary forces.

The comments were made on the verge of increasing tensions between Venezuela and Colombia's US-allied government, as President Hugo Chavez expressed sympathy for Colombia's leftist rebels.

"The paramilitaries are engaged in selling **** below market prices to win over crime gangs and arm them with military arms," Chavez said on his weekly TV show.

He threatened to take these charges to international bodies.

Guerrilla and paramilitary forces in Colombia are believed to sometimes cross the remote jungle border with Venezuela and they manage to finance their fight through drug-trafficking and narcotic exports through Venezuela.
