The world's oldest fishing net is carbon dated at 10 000 years old. It was found in 1914 in Korpilahti swamp at Antrea, Karelia. (not far from the writer's ancestral home) At the bottom of the picture are bark floats; at the top, rock weights. The net was made of nettle fibers. Nettle has been used for thousands of years, and for many applications including medicine"

It's a shame that we can't find something indicative or a truly advanced technology back then (10,000 bc).  That would really stir things up in the archaology community.  And it would serve them right, too.  I hate the smugness with which these self-styled "experts" seem to regard the past.

these things will turn up.... maybe we don't yet know what to look for.  Something of this type in Karelia before 10,000 years would be close to impossible to find unless it were to be found UNDERGROUND, because of the crushing glaciers which scraped the landscape smooth down to the bedrock.
