Powerful Nevada union backs Obama
Posted: 08:01 AM ET
(CNN) — The Nevada chapter the of Service Employees International Union announced Wednesday that it is endorsing Sen. Barack Obama.

"It is clear from the overwhelming participation in the Iowa caucus and New Hampshire primary that Americans are ready for change," said Shauna Hamel, Executive Vice President of the union. "We believe that Obama is the candidate who can bring the country together and we are proud to support his candidacy."

The SEIU represents 1.9 million members in North America, all of whom in Nevada are health care and public service workers. In what was seen as a blow to John Edwards in October, the union announced it would not make a national endorsement, but rather allow the state unions to decide for themselves. Of the early primary states, Nevada's chapter has the most members with 17,500.

The Nevada chapter had whittled the field of candidates down to Obama, Edwards and Hillary Clinton but had delayed endorsement decisions amid rumors of dissent among union management.

Unions play a powerful role in Nevada politics and the SEIU endorsement will be a big boost for Obama. But all eyes Wednesday will be a on 2 p.m. ET press conference when Nevada's strongest union - the Culinary Union with its 60,000 members - will make their endorsement.

It's the biggest union in Nevada, and it should help his chances there.

ABC News' Teddy Davis and Sunlen Miller Report: Despite losing Tuesday's New Hampshire primary, Sen. Barack Obama secured the endorsement of the Culinary Workers union.
The endorsement of the 60,000-member Culinary Workers union is seen as the biggest get in Nevada, a state which votes Jan. 19.
At 11 p.m. E.T. on Tuesday, a 12-member panel which controls the 60,000-member Culinary Workers union held a conference call to decide which '08 candidate to endorse.
The panel making the decision is the executive committee of UNITE-HERE, Culinary's parent union.
“We believe that Obama is the candidate who can bring the country together and we are proud to support his candidacy," Shauna Hamel, Executive Vice President of the union says.
The backing of the 60,000-member union is seen as important because the state's Democratic Party is only expecting 40,000 Democrats to participate in the caucuses.
Culinary's members work in casinos up and down the Las Vegas Strip.
Obama will travel to Las Vegas on Friday to formally accept the endorsement.

All this makes Barack Obama more competitive in Nevada and, since South Carolina's Democrats are 50% black, he should win that one, too.

All this won't get decided till Super Tuesday, though, at the earliest!

Right Black-America won't see the CFR Illuminati connections.  Those who cast votes anyway.
