He would be 116 if he lived.
How will you be celebrating it?  I will drink a glass of wine to the master of fantasy fiction who has done more to shape modern fantasy fiction more than any other author.
Here's to Professor Tolkien:

Thanks.

ILLIGITIMI NON CARBORUNDUM

Thus ye may find in thy mental and spiritual self, ye can make thyself just as happy or just as miserable as ye like. How miserable do ye want to be?......For you GROW to heaven, you don't GO to heaven. It is within thine own conscience that ye grow there.

What a fantastic author he was. All other fantasy epics pale in comparison to Lord of the Rings.  He spent 14 years writing it and every bit of it shows.  Even the Star Wars franchise pales by comparison.

I always found the Star Wars trilogy to be a bit derivative of Tolkien's work.
Not only that, I felt that his second trilogy, his "prequel" diminished the quality of the films a whole. They weren't badly done (with the exception of the awfully lame, "Phantom Menace"), but something about them just never "fit" with the originals.
