Daily Times

ISLAMABAD: Al Qaeda has claimed responsibility for the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, Online quoted Adnkronos International (AKI) news agency as reporting. “We terminated the most precious American asset which vowed to defeat (the) mujahadeen,” AKI quoted Al Qaeda commander and main spokesman Mustafa Abu Al Yazid as saying. According to AKI, Al Yazid is the main Al Qaeda commander in Afghanistan. “It is believed that the decision to kill Benazir...was made by Al Qaeda No 2, the Egyptian doctor, Ayman Al Zawahiri in October,” AKI said. “...one cell comprising a defunct Lashkar-e-Jhangvi’s Punjabi volunteer succeeded in killing Benazir,” it added. Meanwhile, the FBI and US Homeland Security departments on Friday claimed that Al Qaeda leader Ayman Al Zawahiri masterminded the assassination of the PPP chairwoman, Geo news reported.

Pakistan goes up in riots, followed by martial law,

...followed by US troops "securing" the WMD's and Pakistani civilians' rights to "democracy".

This murder was all about keeping the power out of the peoples' hands.  Musharraf was about to be popularly unelected and democratic secularism would blossom in what has been repeatedly called the most dangerous country in the world.  The illusion that muslims are all violent extreemists who want to kill people who believe in liberty would have been shattered by the reality of peaceful, secular self-rulership.

This brings up an obvious question, what is Iran doing right now?

Eastern Iran is incredibly mountainous so there's no land invasion advantage to useing Pakistan as a launch point, however there is record of large roads and railways that run from Pakistan into the heart of Iran - right into Tehran.  So much neighboring and costal airspace is already occupied that little is gained aerially that was not alreday there.  Water wise, the Persian Gulf could be easily blockaded from Karachi, but US fleets already have all the position they need.  All in all, not much is gained toward the Neo-Con invasion of Iran except an alternate point of entry, all be it the back door if the Iraq side is the point of the break-in.
