CAT ISLAND

Introduction

Cat Island, one of the Bahama's, is long and small, the top of a mountain ridge when the sea levels were lower than in the present. Around it there are many smaller islands, rocks, breaking hardly through the water, making the island ideal for watersports. The pictures behind the thumbnails below are (besides the first three) from a divers site on a trip to the island. The authors' attention was first drawn to the pictures of the so-called long rocks, which have silhouettes reminding one of some of the silhouets from Marcahuasi (if you don't have them seen yet, please go first to the Peru Sculptures and Marcahuasi galleries). Further investigation turned up the images below. Though this is a selection, it is remarkable that many of the pictures below were indeed made, because one would think that subjects like "rocks" would not be very interesting to divers. However, apparently the features highlighted below had subconsciously drawn their attention.

Analysis

The data from Cat Island should be treated with the utmost care. Because if proven, they show a cultural link between the finds in Peru and those in the Caribbean. Together with the toolmarks link shown in the Toolmarks gallery,  the existence of a common cultural background between these two sites becomes quite probable, and their is no known such link in the cultures we know off until now.

This power came forth out of the Atlantic Ocean. But afterwards there occurred violent earthquakes and floods; and in a single day and night of misfortune all your warlike men in a body sank into the earth, and the island of Atlantis in like manner disappeared in the depths of the sea.

Cat Island

This is from a tourist site and denoted there as "the cave at industrious hill". Though the aera outlined is multi-interpretable, its polygone features are most likely artificial, and one sees at least face-like features of the familiar South-American-distorted type.

One quit certain one, and one less; the latter is ruined by the shadow below the left eye, and might be more clear at other angles.

Another cave, this one photographed by the divers. One would think the four images on the top of the entrance would be obvious, the third from the left resembling a bat, the fourth eagle-like, though its eyes are a bit large.

Simply called "rocks", one wanders why this object was the subject of a photograph for the divers, and selected for their website.

The top of the head to the left, this image is highly similar to the "laying gods" in Marcahuasi, see e.g. here.

What draw the attention of the divers is probably the almost vertical split in the rocks, in view of the close up they made in the next picture, and called "longrocks_split".

When you see this picture with the knowlegde of the previous one, one wanders how they could miss it: it is staring you in the face. This, of course, is also the clue and the intention of this imaging method.

The author gets an headache from looking at this one, and it is left to the visitor to make sense out of it, because that there is sense in it looks quite a certainty. The divers must have felt this too, in making and publishing this picture of what would otherwise be a piece of flat rock.

No mere souvenir, but an ancient artifact, with clearly the same cultural marks as those of the rock images, e.g. look at the fish in the left corner. Probably Chris was not aware of the cultural value of his find, which is, as far as the author is aware, the only handable artifact that shows the image features of the rock and mountain sculpting on a monumental scale.

On the left edge, the face of a comtemplating man. Probably there is more to be found, see the enlargement next.

Now more clearly visible is the head on the entire right edge, facing to the right. This picture also shows the low quality, hampering a thorough investigation. The latter would be of great value, since with this artifact it is possible to change viewing and lighting angles instantly, and thereby to test the hypothesis about how these kind of imaging works. For tantilizing examples, see the ape-like image in the bottom right corner, and the one in the "nose" of the face, right above the ape.

A short news blurb in Atlantis Rising Magazine #32:

PLATO'S ATLANTEAN CANALS SAID TO BE IN BAHAMAS

California-based cartographer Ron Smith believes he has identified, in the Bahamas, the location of the great canal which Plato said surrounded the royal city of Atlantis. In an area between Cat Island (which, from the air, resembles a dolphin) and little San Salvador, east of Bimini, Smith has found two lengthy concentrically curved rocky structures visible above the water which appear to form the banks of what was once a great circular canal. The two structures are identified on charts as "Long Rocks." The currently visible features are of coral encrusted limestone (coral, by the way, can be dated). The channel between the islands is at a depth consistent with a once-navigable waterway and, according to Smith, the remains of what appears to have once been a very long canal are easily discerned..

Longtime Caribbean explorer and archaeologist William Donato says circles coinciding with the islands would indicate a center 3.22 miles away. In Plato's story the distance was 3.2 miles. Smith also reports that the area between Bimini and Andros has dimensions corresponding to Plato's "great plain" Moreover, Smith also believes he has identified other structures consistent with Plato's account, including the Grand Canal outlet to the sea. He is now actively campaigning for further exploration of the area.

Incidentally, recent satellite photos of nearby Bermuda show faint circular patterns which appear to be the cratered remains of significant meteor hits, providing support for those like the late German scholar Otto Muck, who have suggested that the destruction of Atlantis was the result of meteor or asteroid hits.

HAS THE ROYAL CITY OF POSEIDON BEEN FOUND?
By William Donato
Excerpt from the Atlantis Organization Newsletter #16

If the contained information herein is verified then both Plato and Edgar Cayce will be vindicated and there will be absolute concrete verification for the existence of Atlantis in the Bahamas.

Several months ago a Mr. Ron Smith of "Quicksilver Title" in Woodland, California, and I met via e-mail and then by phone. His observations may someday go down as the most significant in the history of archeology. He logically concluded that there was only one place that could have contained all of the features of the sizes described by Plato --and that is the Bahamas before the Pleistocene flooding drowned out most of its surface area, reducing it from literally thousands of square miles of surface area to a mass of small islands. There is no need to move the location out of the Atlantic Ocean, to reduce the age by thousands of years, or to reduce the size of its structures by a factor of ten. It can all stand the way it was originally given. This might tend to be a problem for the reactionary ultraconservative conventionalists, or as Ron has dubbed them the "Clovis Mafia" (those unwilling to accept anything older than the 10,000 year period). He has been using space photos and maps from Maptech.

One of the first anomalous features Ron made me aware of is called the "Muchoir Bank", a little south of Caicos. I could hardly believe it when I saw it. It is a perfect circle, as if drawn by a huge compass, with an almost pie-like section removed from it that drops off to deep water. The bank is between 20 and 22 feet deep then drops precipitously to 1,045 feet. The likelihood that this is natural is almost nil.

Another feature is between South Cat Cay and Riding Rocks. It looks like an artificial canyon with a flat bottom and "things" sticking up out of them that may be the remnants of structures. This is especially interesting as the "pentagon" I found is just east of South Cat Cay.

South of Ocean Cay there a plateau with an undulating serpent-like feature with something resembling a straight road or canal on one side. Other features include multiple flat plateaus. Two connected plateaus just north of the Grand Bahama Bank appears to be perfectly level for their entire length.

The features (from the data) that Ron has been looking at in the data suggests extensive quarrying at the Cay Sal Bank. This is supported by observations of apparently cut stone blocks in an underwater cave at Cay Sal Island by Herb Sawinski and more recently by my own observations at Anguilla Cay in 1998 where I photographed an area on the northern side that looked like it too had been quarried --though this spot was above the water.

It is significant that a number of these features seem have the shapes of animals (on a huge scale) when seen from above. With the exception of some Egyptian pyramids laid out in star patterns and some large chalk figures on the English countryside such figures seem limited to the New World, most notably the Mound Builders zoomorphic effigy mounds in North America and the "Nazca Lines" and Inca city planning (Cusco is shaped like a puma, the royal animal, and Machu Picchu like a condor) in South America. The American mounds themselves number into the thousands and cover a substantial part of eastern North America from the Gulf Coast up into Canada.

The coup de grace came when Ron directed me to a feature between Cat Island and Little San Salvador in the eastern Bahamas. It is a feature called "Long Rocks". It is composed of limestone, much of it covered with extensive coral growth. Ron even has a sample of the limestone in his possession. [Note: I investigated this feature in June 2002 and have several samples now.] Part of this is above the surface. When Ron directed my attention to it (we were using our computers and he was directing me on the phone) my first response upon seeing two long arcing parallel lines was to say "that looks artifactual!" Then he responded "that's it". Upon more careful observation I saw that there was not just two curving lines. There were three arcing parallel lines of decreasing size as one went north of the outer one, it being quite obvious that these were the remnants of concentric circular features with a common canter. If this wasn't enough Ron had me measure them, which gave an outside diameter of 3.2 miles (once Greek stadia were converted to English feet), the precise size that Plato gave for the diameter of the outer circular canal for the royal city of Poseidon. There were features at right angles to the arcs (and connected to them) that may represent canals and/or bridges. There was also a longer line that had apparently once connected to it of over 5 miles length, again precisely Plato's measurement of the "Grand Canal" which connected the city with the ocean. Ron's friend, diver Jay Darnell, says that there is "really weird stuff" in the area and actually describes the feature as a canal with flat square stones on the bottom that have a sort of "rippled" appearance. The first thing that came to my mind were images of the great Alaskan earthquake and how it "rippled" the sidewalks there. The large number of coral heads seem to have specific orientations, suggesting that most may be growing over what may be left of structures. What I found especially interesting was the fact that the Grand Canal would have connected with the ocean on the bay side rather than the ocean side where it would have been protected --a wise precaution against Atlantic storms! Just above and below Little San Salvador there are a number of other coral lines. The parallel ones below it (or the straight ones near Eastern Bay?) appear to represent the Grand Canal leading into the outer concentric canal. There are also other lines of coral lending to speculation that they might be what's left of smaller canals, perhaps for irrigation or transport. Ron also pointed out something that I am really surprised no one has noticed before: the top section of Cat Island is shaped like a dolphin!   Not only that, there's some sort of inlet or small bay where the "blow hole" would be! An associate also told him that there are two caves on the island that people go to when there are bad storms. One of them has two carved reclining seats carved out of the rock on the inside (he's trying to get an associate to photograph it). One may remember that the dolphin motif was strongly represented in the Temple of Poseidon in Plato's narrative as a hundred Nereids riding dolphins were said to be about Poseidon's chariot pulled by six winged horses.

If this site is verified our quest to prove the reality of Atlantis will finally be over, but our work will just be beginning! Georg Mcjunkin and I did an initial survey of this area on June 13, 2002 and it looks most promising.
