The Fey, or fair folk, date well back into antiquity. They are grossly misrepresented in todays literature. The earliest oral tradition of the Fey comes from the Irish (a long time prior to the Druids). They were refered to as the Tuatha De Daanan (my spelling may be a bit off here). Though these very early Irish settlers were small (slender, lightly built) they had blue or green eyes, blonde or red hair; they were in no way as small as "tinker bell" nor were they winged. The victorian writers and artists put wings on the faeries. According to legend, the Tuatha Da Dannan were very knowledgeable about the uses of herbs for medicinal values. When the Malenesians (again not certain about spelling) invaded Ireland they were a larger race and pushed the Faery people into the interior and forested areas; but contact was made and maintained as soon as the invaders realized the fey were magical (could treat ills with herbals). Later these invaders were replaced by the Celts who were larger still; but the fey were still used for their magical skills though by now many had interbed into the main population. Those who had stayed mainly racially pure tended to seek out the lonely forested areas in which to live. The stories about the feys, over the centuries continued to make them ever smaller and more magical; finally endowing them with wings in the victorian age. Serious literature on the faeries can be found but one must wade through thousands of the cute, whimsical, and utterly false historys. So, it doesn't really seem too likely that your robust nordic aliens were ever connected to the fey. One theory is that the fey were the original inhabitants of Atlantis who were either in Ireland at the time of the cataclysm or escaped there after the drowning of their homeland. There is a very old tale that says the Leprechauns still guard the gold that was brought from Atlantis to Ireland. Now the leprechaun is another story.
