Wouldn't it stand to reason that you would want your leader to be smarter than you?

that's very good reasoning ... Unfortunately there is a little thing called human nature to contend with. Humans tend to hate people that are smarter than them.

And how can you tell if someone is smarter than you ??

Ackkk!  America is being held hostage by the right wing religious nutjobs.  Somebody either invade us or nuke the hell out of us right now!

Although I'd rather not like to get the hell nuked out of me. I can't deny Pagan's style . Best poster here .....  But I'm not in America ...so nukes away  Tongue

If they bring in the NAU and America becomes as slave-minded like Communist-China then hell hit NY first then Texas then California then Alaska.

Better stop before I get on a FEMA list.   Cheesy

You can't go wrong with a southerner leading the good ole U.S. of A.  Southerners realize that sometimes you have to use force to make a point, but their values are all steeped in the values of the Bible. Not that the Bible is everything, but I sure would rather a person use that as a starting point than the Q'uran.  That book has way too much violence in it.

On another point, I love America.  I have a little American flag on my desk and each time I look at it in the morning, I get a little weepy-eyed.   Sad

Ron Paul may be from Texas, but he is against the war and anyone who doesn't support the troops, by their very definition, is unpatriotic, Volitzer. When I think of how much blood American troops have shed in Iraq, and when I think of how some in the Democratic Party and Ron Paul want to throw all that away, it gets me a little peeved.

Then why does Ron Paul get the majority of financial support from the troops then ??

Cuz they see the Bushtapo's endeavor for what it is an imperial operation to choke the worlds oil supply.

Why, thank you, Mark!  Some of my remarks tend to be a little off color sometimes, but since you aren't a right wing religious nutjob (from texas), I'll assume that you won't be starting a movement anytime soon to ban me!

right wing religious nutjob ?  me ?   Noooo . I don't think I fit into any category anymore .But I do have that American (and Aussie ) trait of going for the underdog ,and in this forum that is manifested in my 'defense' of  HappyTexan that I posted earlier.,even though I totally disagree with him..I just felt sorry for him that's all. ...I think the balance we have at this forum is great because the majority you could say are liberal types so that the bigFatFurryTexan types get pummelled whenever they pipe up. You gotta admire their perseverence though.
Plus I can see the danger of having too many right wing religious nutjobs. Since we already have one of them boldly trying to have people banned!! Best keep them in their box.

Ban you ?!!  Far from it  ,more like petition to get you a medal  Tongue

.... I saw Mike Huckabee on Letterman and I saw him an American morning news show ...hmmm it's hard to tell .He is a smooth talker and is too the point. If he is dodgy ,then he's a very clever baddy. Huh.. For now I'll give him a chance..

I checked Ron Pauls website .He seems the best when it comes to his main values ..I like that he wants to stay as true to the constitution as possible. His record suggests that he's not a hypocrite ...which is always good  Roll Eyes

John McCain ,When I first started keeping an eye on American politics it was when Bush and McCain were in a very close battle to win the Republican party nomination (is that what it's called ?) I was very disappointed when Bush won it..the rest is history.
I followed it quite closely since I was up at all hours and got to see the american news shows which are on at like 4 am here.
..But now when I see McCain on telly he seems like a 'country bumpkin' (do you use that term ??) or do you just say hillbilly ? Smiley
McCain is my sentimental favourite , but I'm not sure if he's got the marbles for it anymore.

Obama ,something I don't trust about him ,I just don't. he seems too young and stupid ...I cringe when he tries to act all presidential ,like a real big man... you know ,handshaking people and getting real close to them to the point of being overbearing..,,,pleaaaase ! stop before I vomit.  He's trying too hard.

Hillary ...poor Hillary ,she didn't do too well just recently in... Iowa ?  .I am warming to her ,I hope she comes back strong

All the other are a freak show  Tongue

Obama is the most Presidential of the bunch - he reminds people of JFK and MLK rolled into one!  I don't know how you get that about him, but it feels like we're living history right now, he is really something special.

McCain is 72 years old, he would be in his 80s if he served two terms!  Age isn't that big a deal, but he has become nutty as a fruitcake, all he wants to do is bomb people.

Ron Paul is sincere, but he also sincerely wants to eliminate Social Security, Medicare and ban abortion!  He is so far out of the mainstream it is ridiculous when it comes to social issues.  Conspiracy theorists sure like him, though!

Hillary is smart, but she has never been popular with people, she has the highest negatives of anyone running for President.

The others aren't worth mentioning except to say that they each have their own flaws.

We have had PLENTY of conversations with people like Tex when he was at AR.  He is not only a hypocrite, but a liar and can't fight his own battles without whining to someone higher up about he's treated.  Feel free to defend hin, though, he needs all the help he can get!

Even if Ron Paul wanted to eleminate SS a sitting Democratic Congress won't let that happen.  Besides I always heard him say opt off of social security if your retirement income is a certain amount your SS adjust downward anyway.

Ron Paul has said he has "interim programs" to "wean" people off of social programs.  What he doesn't recognize is that Social Security is an earned entitlement, people pay into it and simply get what they paid into later on in life.

That isn't a "nanny state," people are simply getting back what the government has withdrawn.

We also pay for Medicare, and the same logic applies.  So, in a nutshell, he simply wants to make things harder on people.  For no good reason!  Not having Social security and Medicare would benefit the rich and no one else.  Poor people and retired people depend on those benefits, and I doubt anyone seriously contemplates not having them.

Right but on a volutary basis, if Ron Paul is successful getting rid of the IRS and the Federal Reserve and repealing the mis-ratified 16th Amendment, Americans will be better off if we go to a flat tax system which only taxes what you spend not what you earn.  Then depending on each person's economic standing at age 65 Social Security kicks in progressively.  If you retired well you get only a percentage of the standard monthly payout.  Why would retired millionaires or anyone earning over $100,000 a year while retired need social security payments ??  These are the people Ron Paul is speaking of and is not the first to do so.

That isn't a "nanny state," people are simply getting back what the government has withdrawn.

Agreed.  Everyone in a $10,000-$99,999 a year deserves a progressive allotment concurrent with their private retirement income. If they have no retirement income give them the full amount.

The problem here is that you assume all poor people are health nuts.  I knew a woman who got into nursing who chronically had to deal with the destitute who never wanted to be at the hospital where she worked but had to keep up an aura of professionalism despite the fact she knew that some of her patients weren't going to listen to a thing she told them for their health benefits and guess who picked up the tab NYS property tax payers.

Then of course you git BIG-PHARMA that sees medicare-medicade as big government funded cash cows.   Yet everyone wonders why healthcare costs are out of control.

Socialist Programs in healthcare only lead to waste and abuses.

Glad to see that, Mark!  I hope whatever state you're in, you toss a vote for him - or my man Mitt.

Mitt has great hair, looks good on TV and is really tall, plus he's a Republican.  What more could you want in a President?
