                                                  Myth or Reality? A Greek answer






The legend of the lost island of Atlantis is recognised by the whole world. In the traditions of different culturs, it is remembered as a large island with a developed civilization which sank into the ocean, or as a great country which was swallowed by the earth!...

All who have referred to it have believed that they were descendants  of its people. Whoever worked with the legend of Atlantis began with the guestion: Was it a mythical or a genuine country? Even from times before written history it comprised of enigma and mystery.

Does it remain a mystery today?. Which land   was it found in? What type of country was Atlantis? Which people inhabited it? Which civilization did they develop? How did their fame spread so far? What were their beliefs, their morals, their traditions,their laws, religion, education, their culturs? Who were the land's leaders? How did they rule it?
This site is created to answer all of these questions. It will also bring forward and uncover the ancient world. The main source of information is the Museum of Atlantis, which has treasured and constantly collects rich materials assisting the proof of Atlantis, from all around the world.

We shall also publish the theories of all scientists, researchers, mediators etc. in association with Atlantis.

 The descriptions of the ancients over the position and extent of Atlantis, triggered off many Atlantologists writers and researchers, geographers, cartographers, navigators etc. to draw maps for Atlantis naming them “ATLAS” or “ATLANTES”. The various shapes of these maps are divided into three groups.  The first one and prevailing, until now, presents an oblong shape from A to D, as it is more or less described by Plato.

 The second group presents circular-quadrangular, star-like and trapezoid shapes that appear huge in the center of the Atlantic.

 The third group follows the shape of the underwater mountain chain of today, that it looks like a mermaid. It is as if having a tail that narrows to the South.

                                                     Where was it?





Undoubtely Atlants or Titans existed.

Sources from the ancient ages confirm that there was a nation called Atlantes. This nation spread its traces in many places of the earth. Its memory remained in various legents,beliefs,worships and traditions. None of the ancient writers, except Greek philosopher Aristoteli, has ever doubted the existence of this nation which was called Atlantes.

The later writers and researches also admit the existence of the Atlantes. However, they disagree about the place where this "strange" nation lived.

The question of where the Atlantes lived has been put since ancient years. Many theories have been developed. Most people's opinion is that they were established in a big island in the Atlantic Ocean. This is also the opinion of the museum of Atlantis as it analitically described below.

Evaluating the information that has been collected about the Atlantes, depriving its mythological coverings and interpreting it without reflective illusions we accept that:

Atlantis existed in the Atlantic Ocean and it was the dominating organised power in the 10th millenium B.C.

This opinion is also accepted by the ancient Greek philosopher Plato in his books "Timeos" and "Kritias"(or Atlantic speach) which was written in 350 B.C. Plato's descriptions in his books mentioned above contain shocking documents:

 In "Timeos" Plato mentions that in front of the mouth which is called Hercules's columns (note: the channel of Gibraltar as it is known in our days) there was a big island with great power which was called Atlantida. Its size was so big that it could be considered as a continent. Plato (427-347 B.C.) describes Atlantida as long and narrow from east to west. As he writes, it could be crossed on foot in 18 days and nights. Afterwards, by sailing from some other islands one could reach the continent which was situated opposite. He means America. Of course Plato wasn't aware of Atlantis. Kritias had given him the information for the descriptions in his books. Kritias with his turn had obtained those notes from his grandfather, who had also obtained them by Solon. Solon (639-559 B.C.) had been to Egypt, where the priests of Saida revealed him the ancient secrets which were written on stones in hieroglyphic symbols. All these are also revealed by the ancient historian Plutarch in "Solon's life". Proklos also confirms that he shaw those stones when he travelled to Egypt and visited the temple of Niith(Athena in Greek). He also adds in his book "Memorandum in the Platonic work":


"During the very old times there was a huge island in the Atlantic Ocean". It was much bigger than Libyan and Asia together assures Krantor (comments in "Timeos").

The priests of Saida, ancient religious capital of Egypt, told Solon that the Aegean islands and Krete were conquered by Atlantes, who had come from the west, from the big ocean.

As it was written on the stones, the powerful nation of the Atlants had conquered almost all the coastal areas of the Mediterrane countries from Noarth to South reaching up to the Persian gult. The Atlants weren't able to conquer Attiki because their troaps had been defeated by the Athenians...

 Atlants governed many islands around their continent in the Atlantic Ocean writes Diodoros Sikeliotis in his work "Historic Bookcase" and they ruled over Mediterranian countries. And he also adds, apart from Plato these are confirmed by Homer, Hesiod, Herodotus, Aeschylus, Philon, Aristarchus, Kratis and Apollodorus.

 Poseidonios, Kikeron's teacher, writes "There were legends that beyond the Hercules Stones there was a huge area which was called "Poseidonis" or "Atlanta"".

 Geographer Markellos in his "Collection of travellers' narrations" speaks about  seven islands of the Atlantic ocean one of which was Neptune's sacred place. 

 Stravonas in his "Geographics" accepts that "...the island of Atlantis in the fer west places..." was reality.

 The names Atlas - Antiatlas (mountains of Marocco) ,Atitlan (Guatemala), Tlakopan, Tenochitlan, Mitla, Etla (Mexico) etc, are all derivatives of A-tla. 

 The tribes of the Aztlans, Nahouatlakatlis ancestors of Aztecs, Toltecs and Magias and their Gods Kouedjalkoatl (flying), Mixkoatl and Tlaloc and their traditional giants Atlan and Teitani (Titan) known from the very ancient times by the Mediterranian place.

But apart from the ancient people's evidence, the traditions and the mythology of the ancient nations, the fact that Atlantis existed in the Atlantic ocean is confirmed by important archaeological findings which were discovered after excavations and research.

                                              Atlantis in Greek mythology





Myth is a fake story referring to gods, demigods and human heroes in the nature and meaning of the universe. Myths compose the first creating of human imagination, and that is why all people on earth have myths.

But the Greeks, who have the most myths, are considered to be the first mythmakers. Historians, philosophers and poets dealt with myths during the ancient years.

The first poets who occupied themselves with the registration of myths in the then spoken Greek language, were Homer in "Iliad" and "Odyssey" and Hesiod (750-700 BC) in his work "Theogony".

Homer and Hesiod were not just poets. They were also members (mystics) of the clergy and therefore revealed many of the secrets registered by it. The clergy used to register stories, myths and events from a long time before in unintelligible languages to the people. Many times it mixed the events with the beliefs, desires and dreams, and other times intentionally covered or altered events.

Real people who had made impressive work, were presented as mythical heroes like for instance the builders of ancient cities which are named by them; remains of these cities as well as inscriptions have been found (i.e. Troy). This way an insolvable confusion of historic and mythic figures, phenomena and gods was created.

This is how we can explain the fact that, as seen below, there are different myths for the same people and events.

The most famous historian is Herodotus, who is aware of the religious and mythical portrayals of the civilized eastern people and compares and contrasts them to the Greek ones.

As far as the philosophers are concerned, it' s worthy naming the stoics, who interpreted myths related to the gods as religious symbols or ones of natural meanings. Later, during the Alexandrine times, Evimerus tried to alter mythology into history. He used to teach that both gods and myths referring to gods come from historical events. Evimerus (4th-3rd century BC) wrote that "gods" were not supernatural creatures but famous warriors who became legends and therefore "gods".

Studying the Greek myths that existed among the citizens in different places in Greece from 2000 BC and hence, we will discover many legends saying that many old heroes of Greece and other people of the Mediterranean, even gods, mythical and historical figures, leaders and kings of several areas of Greece came from the Atlantians the generation of Titans.

The oral tradition (myths) about Atlas, Poseidon, Cronus, the Giants, the Cyclops, the Titans and their whole generation, the mermaids, the amazons and "gods" such as Zeus, Hermes, Athena etc. talk about their relation to a heaven, in the imagination of the ancient people, island all around earth, west in the ocean.

This island was Atlantis.

The Greeks and the most ancient people, having some memory of this great land and its history made many kings and heroes of it "gods".

This occurred as many countries and cities were colonized and many people were civilized by the Atlantians or others contacted them; this does not mean that there were not other civilized people at that time or previously.

The sinking of the metropolis (Atlantis) caused by a universal flood (this is referred to the traditions of many people in the same way) had a lot to do with this deification since the written documents were lost, most of the monuments and technical works were destroyed and so on.

The universal flood did not affect in the same way all the places on earth; this is why some constructions were maintained in many places (i.e. the Pyramids).

So a new generation of people and a new civilization emerged from the survivors. The Atlantian conquerors that survived in the colonies losing the power of the metropolis that protected them assimilated with the natives. But they transmitted orally to the new generations the story of their island, the achievements of their leaders and the sinking. The story of the Atlantians as well as their traditions became myths, connected with the traditions of the local people and many heroes of the Atlantians were deified. We assume that the story of Atlantis is the key of the Greek mythology.

Today the belief that the "gods" of Greece were human beings becomes strong. The tendency to attribute god qualities to great chiefs is deeply connected with the human nature.

Herodotus (History book b) assures that the ministers of Thebes in Egypt showed him 341 giant statues of archbishops; each one represented a past generation and all of them covered a period of 11340 years. He was told that before these generations "gods lived among humans".

*** Hi Bianca *** Ive been working on this iDea for years. . . but I havent put it forward yet? after living many years in the Centre of the Aegean Circle on a Marble Island. . . whoes marble has been famous since antiquity ! 60 percent of classical greek sculpture comes from this same quarry that I have had the privilege of having access to and working this very same marble for 28 years. I have been truly honored and humbled by it. It is considered the most transluscent marble in the world. I have measured the light of a 500 W halogen lamp penetrating to a depth of 18 cm ! This is unheard of in the world of marble! Ask anybody that knows marble? It is like a jewel . . . a Gem ! You literally see images inside. This goes beyond the average crystal ball! It has a magical quality that requires great patience and devotion to attain the trance like state required to interpret the message. I know sculptors that will not touch this marble!
