Its really hard to pick, I think the alien series are the best movies, but the alien is not my favorite monster. I am a sucker for the old fashioned misunderstood monster theme, representing the alienated and disenfranchised in society.

He really isn't  a monster, but he might be somebodies favorite, the phantom of the opera isn't a monster either but it is a horror story.
