New Penny Dreadful: City of Angels Spot Teases the Show’s ‘Great Battle’
With less than two weeks to go until Penny Dreadful: City of Angels premieres, Showtime has just dropped a new teaser for the highly anticipated series. Titled “A Great Battle,” the spot actually previews two major conflicts that will unfold over the course of the season.

The spot does more to illustrate the series’ 1930s political climate. Detective Tiago Vega, already facing pressure due to his being the first Mexican-American recruit to the LAPD, encounters more than he bargained for when a grisly murder exacerbates racial tensions in Los Angeles. The resulting quarrels between the police and the city’s Latinx community will be brutal. Plus, they’ll undoubtedly compel Vega to reflect on his own sense of identity as well.

The latest teaser also highlights some of the supernatural occurrences that L.A. is about to play host to. With this, viewers are treated to more VFX-heavy action than what’s been glimpsed in previous spots. We see new glimpses of Natalie Dormer’s Magda, the primary antagonist, facing off against her sister, Santa Muerte (Lorenza Izzo), the personification of death. There’s also a rather menacing shot of Magda walking across a field going up in flames.

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels debuts on Sunday, April 26 at 10pm on Showtime. You can watch the new teaser for the series below, then share your thoughts in the comment section!
