Neil Gaiman Says Netflix’s Sandman TV Series Will Follow the Comic
After decades in development Hell, Neil Gaiman’s iconic comic book series, The Sandman, was picked up by Netflix last summer. Wonder Woman co-writer Allan Heinberg will serve as showrunner with both Gaiman and David Goyer executive producing. There hasn’t been much news about the series since the initial announcement. However, Gaiman recently shared a reassuring note.

Via Comic Book Resources, Gaiman participated in an AMA session on Reddit. When asked how much The Sandman would be changed for the adaptation, Gaiman replied that “it’s the same plot.” He also added that “we will do most if not all of [the comic stories], including the single issue tales and the overarching story of Morpheus.

In 1988, Gaiman and artists Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg debuted Morpheus a.k.a. Dream in The Sandman #1. Morpheus spent 70 years as a captive before reclaiming his freedom and his lost power. The comic chronicled Morpheus’ attempts to reconcile with his past while also introducing his siblings, the Endless. Gaiman also introduced a new incarnation of Lucifer, who eventually headlined his own comic and even a TV series on Fox and Netflix. However, it’s unlikely that The Sandman and Lucifer TV series will feature any crossovers.

Netflix hasn’t announced when The Sandman will begin production, nor have there been any casting reveals.

Are you happy to hear that The Sandman TV series will follow the comic closely? Which stories do you want to see adapted? Let us know in the comment section below!
