After months of hype, barely anyone actually turned up to storm through the gates of the secretive facility.
Millions signed up for it, but when push came to shove, very few were willing to go through with it.

According to various reports, somewhere between 75 and 150 people actually turned up at the gates of Area 51 on the day and the actual 'storming' of the base never materialized.

Only one person was arrested and that was for urinating near the gate.

The story was much the same for other mirror events such as 'Storm Loch Ness'.

"I'm a little disappointed because it's a lot less people than they said online," said Area 51 attendee Nathan Brown who had driven 700 miles from Portland to attend the event.

Originally billed as a tongue-in-cheek effort to determine if there are aliens at the secretive US base, the event titled "Storm Area 51, They Can't Stop All of Us" was originally posted on Facebook in July.

It quickly became something of an Internet phenomenon with 2.5 million signups.

Given the meager turnout however, the event seems to have ended in more of a whimper than a bang.
