A Battlestar Galactica Reboot Is in the Works on NBC’s Streaming Service
Big news today, coming right on the anniversary of the first episode of the original Battlestar Galactica back in 1978. According to Deadline, NBCUniversal will produce a Galactica reboot for its forthcoming streaming service called Peacock. The service will make its debut on April 2020 and it will feature a few series reboots from the NBCU library, with Battlestar Galactica among them. The project will involve Mr. Robot and Homecoming executive producer Sam Esmail, who has recently declared himself “a huge fan.” Esmail expressly asked to work on it in a recent deal he closed at NBCU’s Universal Content Productions earlier this year.

The original Battlestar Galactica series aired for the first time on September 1978 and ran until April 1979. The show featured Richard Hatch, Dirk Benedict, and Lorne Greene as Commander Adama. Thanks to a write-in campaign, the series later made a comeback as the 10-episode spin-off Galactica 1980. In 2003, Sci-Fi Channel developed a three-hour Battlestar Galactica miniseries, which then became the pilot for the weekly television show which debuted in 2004 and ran for four seasons before concluding on March 20, 2009. The franchise has expanded since then thanks to spin-off shows, webisodes, and books.

There are few details about the Battlestar Galactica reboot available at the moment, but according to a source at the Hollywood Reporter, the project “will be inspired by Syfy’s 2004 series, developed by Ron Moore, and not based on the 1978 original from creator Glen A. Larson.” Keep following us for the latest news on this.
