Comic-Con: Full Marvel Phase 4 slate confirmed!

During their big Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios has unveiled the full slate of films and TV series that will encompass Phase 4 of the MCU!

Feige officially announced the feature film Black Widow, which is slated for a May 1, 2020 release in U.S. theaters, making it the first film of Phase Four to hit the big screen.

Feige surprised the audience with the first footage from Black Widow, which is currently in production. The film is directed by Cate Shortland who was on hand to greet the Hall H audience along with Scarlett Johansson, reprising her role of Natasha Romanoff, as well as newcomers to the Marvel Cinematic Universe David Harbour as Alexei aka The Red Guardian, Florence Pugh as Yelena, O-T Fagbenle as Mason and Rachel Weisz as Melina.

The Eternals will be next, an exciting new team of Super Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe from director Chloé Zhao which stars Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh and Angelina Jolie as Thena. The Eternals will make their Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in theaters on November 6, 2020.

The next entry in the phrase isn’t a film at all, but the first MCU Disney+ original series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, which pairs up two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most popular heroes—Sam Wilson aka The Falcon and Bucky Barnes aka The Winter Soldier—in a series of action-filled adventures as they fight together against evil after the events of Avengers: Endgame.

Anthony Mackie (The Falcon) and Sebastian Stan (The Winter Soldier) will star alongside Daniel Brühl who will return as the villain, Baron Zemo. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is set to debut on Disney+ in the fall of 2020.

Next comes Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings featuring Simu Liu in the title role of Shang-Chi with Destin Daniel Cretton on board to direct. Awkwafina has also been cast in a yet-to-be-disclosed role with celebrated Chinese actor Tony Leung set to play The REAL Mandarin. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be in theaters on February 12, 2021.

Next comes another Disney+ series with WandaVision, where Paul Bettany reprises the role of Vision and Elizabeth Olsen returns to her role of Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch. MCU newcomer Teyonah Parris will be playing the grown-up version of Monica Rambeau, who was introduced to audiences in Captain Marvel. WandaVision premieres on Disney+ in the spring of 2021.

Next will be Loki, Tom Hiddleston—back in his role of the mercurial Loki, the god of mischief and everyone’s favorite villain—will return as the character in the spring of 2021 on Disney+. The series will deal with the biggest question from Avengers: Endgame, “Where did Loki go when he took the Space Stone?”

The MCU goes back to the big screen next with the second film in the “Doctor Strange” franchise, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Scott Derrickson, returns to direct with Benedict Cumberbatch returning to star. Elizabeth Olsen will star in as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in the sequel which connects directly to the WandaVision TV series. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters on May 7, 2021.

Then the first animated entry in the MCU with What If….?, a series being created exclusively for Disney+ which features stories that present alternate realities in the Marvel universe. Many actors from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe will reprise their roles as voice talent in the series with Jeffrey Wright set as the voice of the popular character The Watcher in the new series. What If…? joins the Disney+ lineup in the summer of 2021.

Next will be the previously reported Hawkeye Disney+ series with Jeremy Renner set to reprise his role as Clint Barton. In the series he will teach his protege Kate Bishop, a character well-known in Marvel comics, who will be an integral part of the series. Hawkeye launches on Disney+ in the fall of 2021.

Finally, Thor: Love and Thunder, which will be the fourth feature film in the “Thor” franchise will cap off Phase Four with Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman, set to become the Mighty Thor, the goddess of Thunder. Director Taika Waititi returns alongside Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. The sequel arrives November 5, 2021 in theaters.

However, one last announcement was made by Feige, though not explicitly referred to as part of Marvel’s Phase Four but simply a reveal of what’s in development, he was joined on stage by actor Mahershala Ali who will star in Marvel Studios feature film Blade.

Comic-Con: WandaVision Cast Confirmed by Marvel

During their Comic-Con panel Marvel Studios has confirmed the cast of the Disney+ series WandaVision, which will feature Elizabeth Olson and Paul Bettany’s title characters, as well as Teyonah Parris as the grown up Monica Rambeau, who appeared as an 11-year-old in Captain Marvel, played by Akira Akbar. The show will arrive on Disney+ in Spring 2021!

In a recent interview with Variety, Olson revealed that the show will be set in the 1950’s, with filming scheduled to begin this fall.

“There’s quite a few other comic books that we’re pulling from and it’s going to be Wanda and the Vision, and I think at the Disney+ launch chat, they showed a photo of us in the ’50s,” Olsen said. “Paul [Bettany] and I are really excited. They have a great group of writers. I think it’s going to be a total of six hours.”

WandaVision will follow the story of Olson and Paul Bettany’s superhero characters Scarlet Witch and Vision from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series is expected to be the first show that Marvel Studios is producing for Disney+ with Jac Schaeffer (Captain Marvel) serving as the its producer, showrunner and writer.

It was previously confirmed by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige that the Marvel shows they are currently working on for Disney+ such as Falcon & Winter Soldier, Loki, and the Hawkeye series “will be equally important to the films ” and to the post-Endgame future of the superhero franchise.

Scarlet Witch and Vision were last seen in last summer’s blockbuster Avengers: Infinity War, though the duo parted on rather depressing terms. Scarlet Witch attempted, nay, destroyed the infinity stone inside Vision’s head, thus killing the man she loved. Except Thanos used the time stone in his gauntlet to undo her actions, which brought Vision back to life … but then he died again when Thanos removed the stone from his head and completed his quest to collect all the infinity stones. The infamous snap heard ’round the universe then effectively turned Scarlet Witch to ash.
