Spider-Man: Far From Home Sets New Opening Day Record
Everyone expected Spider-Man: Far From Home to be a box-office draw. Few, however, may have imagined that the movie would break box office records on opening day. According to Entertainment Weekly, the latest adventure of the web-slinger heads into the upcoming Independence Day long weekend with a massive $39.3 million haul from its Tuesday opening. Thus, Far From Home sets a new box office record after breaking the previous one set by 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man, which pulled in $35 million.

Several box office analysts predicted that Far From Home would cash in $40 million – $43 million. Despite falling short by a few million, the Jon Watts-directed film is supposed to pull in around $150 million before the end of the weekend. The previous Marvel Cinematic Universe adventure of Peter Parker, Spider-Man: Homecoming, earned $117 million during its three-day opening in 2017.

Far From Home will go head-to-head with some strong competition, including the horror flicks Midsommar and Annabelle Comes Home, Disney’s Toy Story 4 and the live-action Aladdin remake. Moreover, Danny Boyle’s Beatles-themed dramedy Yesterday hit theaters just last week.

Additionally, the movie has already opened in China, Japan, and Hong Kong, grossing $111 million so far. The most optimistic projections expect Spider-Man‘s European vacation to gross more than $1 billion worldwide. Taking into consideration the fact that people will be home from work and that the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has legions of fans around the world, the $1 billion worldwide milestone could be more than just a dream for Marvel Studios.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is playing in theaters right now. Did you expect Far From Home to set a new box office record on opening day? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
