Director Explains Kong’s Absence From Godzilla: King of the Monsters
Godzilla: King of Monsters hit the theaters a couple of weeks ago, and many fans have noticed Kong’s absence from the final clash despite the many references to him throughout the movie. Now, King of Monsters director Mike Dougherty has taken to Twitter to cast some light on why Kong didn’t join the rest of the iconic kaiju in the final battle.

Dougherty shared an excerpt from the official novelization by Greg Keyes, which explains that Kong (and the Skullcrawlers) did hear a call from “others somewhat more like him” even before, but he has always chosen to ignore it. The reason why is the fact that he only cared about his Skull Island. The events of King of Monsters, though, have brought some change, so now Kong is looking for those responsible.

Speaking of Kong, we might have a problem with the upcoming Godzilla vs. Kong. The movie is supposed to stomp into theaters in March of the next year, but over at Deadline, Warner Bros. boss Toby Emmerich has revealed that they are thinking about postponing the release of next year’s clash of titans. “[Godzilla vs. Kong] will deliver for fans in the way they were looking for [in Godzilla: King of the Monsters],” Emmerich said. “It might come out later in the year, so we can deliver an A+ movie.”

Emmerich’s intention to deliver an A+ movie may also hide a concern about the movie underperforming at the box office, more or less like King of the Monsters.

Godzilla vs. Kong is scheduled to be released on March 13, 2020. What do you think about the fact that the movie might come out later in 2020? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
