Capcom Reveals New Multiplayer Resident Evil: Project Resistance
Just in time for the start of this week’s Tokyo Game Show, Capcom has unveiled the next game in its Resident Evil franchise. Fans may want to get their friends together for this one, because they’re going to need them.

As previously teased, the company has unveiled Resident Evil: Project Resistance, a new multiplayer themed survival shooter. The first teaser trailer for the game is below, promising an intense team-based experience.

It starts with a group of young characters finding themselves locked in a room by an unseen enemy. They’re attacked by zombies and Lickers alike, and take them out with firearms and melee weapons. However, before they can rest easy, the doors open to reveal an even bigger challenge. Mr. X, the unstoppable menace from Resident Evil 2, makes his way through the doors, promising an even more punishing fight.

Project Resistance is the latest Resident Evil game to go multiplayer. Back in 2016, Capcom tried to make it competitive with Umbrella Corps, though the game was not well received by fans. Before that, it produced Operation Raccoon City, a co-op based team adventure that released in 2012. It bears some similarities to Project Resistance, though isn’t confirmed to be tied in with it just yet.

This game looks to have aspects similar to Left 4 Dead and the recently released World War Z. It appears to rely heavily on survival tactics, as players will need weapons to fend off hordes of classic Resident Evil enemies.

This looks to be the latest move forward for Capcom’s big horror franchise. A new Netflix series based on the franchise is on the way. And considering the sales success of Resident Evil 2, it shouldn’t be long before a remake of Resident Evil 3 gets a reveal, much to the delight of fans.

Resident Evil: Project Resistance doesn’t have a release date at the moment, but it’s reportedly due in 2020. It will release for PC via Steam, as well as Xbox One and PlayStation 4. More details are expected later this week during the Tokyo Game Show.
