George R.R. Martin Says There May Be Changes in Game of Thrones Series Finale
The final season of Game of Thrones is just a few weeks away, and no one outside of the show knows quite what to expect. For that matter, neither does George R.R. Martin, the author who wrote the novels that inspired the show. Although Martin has had an active role in guiding the show, it has strayed from his original narrative. And it sounds like Martin expects even more changes once it reaches its conclusion.


While speaking with Rolling Stone, Martin said, “I’ve been so slow with these books. The major points of the ending will be things I told [showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss] five or six years ago. But there may also be changes, and there’ll be a lot added.”

The show went beyond Martin’s books by the conclusion of the fifth season. Benioff and Weiss have largely stayed true to the spirit of Martin’s creation, even without new novels to guide them.

Martin also spoke with Rolling Stone about actresses Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams, and their respective characters: Sansa and Arya Stark. For example, Martin called Arya “a girl who chafes at the roles she was being pushed into, who didn’t want to sew, who wanted to fight with a sword, who liked hunting and wrestling in the mud.” Meanwhile, he considers Sansa the opposite. He called her “a happy, somewhat smug occupant of a cloistered, fluffy world, a Disney princess destined to be tossed into a sea of horrors.”

It’ll be interesting to see how Arya and Sansa react to Daenerys’ arrival, and the war with the White Walkers that will unfold in the final episodes. Will one of the Stark sisters rise to become the new queen? We’ll find out when the final season begins on Sunday, April 14.

It is almost time for Game of Thrones‘ final season and everybody is wondering who will win….and who will die. After eight long seasons, all the speculation and theories could find an answer but actor Iain Glen (Ser Jorah Mormont) says that not all the unresolved issues will have an explanation by the show’s end.

“[When I read the scripts] I felt, ‘They’ve done it, they’ve pulled it off,’” Glen told The Telegraph (via WinterIsComing). “That balance of satiating people’s desire for things to be complete, but leaving enough questions in the air for people to try to project forward what world will follow, individually for all the characters and universally for the world that Thrones has occupied.”

Moreover, Glen also spoke about Emilia Clarke, whom he was worked closely with throughout the series. Glen’s characterhas walked alongside the Khaleesi since the very first episode of the very first season, and the actor complemented his colleague for her artistic and personal development after Clarke revealed that she had an aneurysm just after the end of filming for Game of Thrones‘ first season.

“Emilia went through an extraordinary story arc for herself as a person,” Glen added. “And her character. I saw her as a nervous young actress, who had just got this big gig and everyone, [from] directors [down], was saying, “Is this the right actor? Is this how she should look? Does the wig look right?” It’s an incredible amount of pressure and I saw this young girl cope with it incredibly well.”

Game of Thrones creators on planning the ending for years
The final season of Game of Thrones is just a couple of days away, and the anticipation for the end of HBO’s epic drama is off the charts. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly co-creator and showrunner Dan Weiss revealed that he and collaborator David Benioff  have been actively planning the end of the series for five years, since the show’s third season.


“When you’ve been working on something for 10 years, knowing you’re writing the last episodes is harder because there’s a lot more weight and pressure on those scenes. ‘Is a line right?’ seems more important than in seasons past,” Weiss said. “On the other hand, the motivations behind each scene are something you’ve been thinking about for five years, so the foundations in your mind are stronger for what you’re putting on paper. But you still find yourself spending a lot more time to get it right.”

Benioff took on the subject of spoilers, since the series has been subject to leaks like when the first four episodes of the fifth season made their way online just a day before the season premiere. Benioff seemed to peacefully come to terms with the idea that there will always be some this kind of problems “no matter what.”

“If the NSA and CIA can’t protect all of their information, what hope do we have? Stuff is going to leak no matter what, so you try your best to limit it,” Benioff said. “There’s always going to be a certain level of douchery, of people trying to spoil things. But luckily most people out there don’t want the story to be spoiled. We won’t be relieved until the final episode airs without a leak. We’re certainly happy we got through production without a leak. But there have been issues that have happened in post production, or a week before an episode airs. So we’re entering the most dangerous time“.

On the same subject, the pair also revealed that they won’t divulge the changes they’ve made for the show’s ending compared to the books.

“One thing we’ve talked to George about is that we’re not going to tell people what the differences are, so when those books come out people can experience them fresh,” Benioff said.

Weiss adds, “It’s kind of nice for him because — obviously through necessity we’ve pulled out ahead — the show has become so different [in recent seasons] that people will have no way knowing from watching what will or won’t appear in the books. And honestly, neither do we.”

The Game of Thrones actress is revealing more details about her recovery: "I definitely went through a period of being down, putting it mildly."

Emilia Clarke, best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen on Game of Thrones, recently opened up about the brain aneurysms that almost took her life. In an essay for The New Yorker, Clarke said she suffered the first aneurysm when she was 24 years old, shortly after completing filming for season one of Game of Thrones. She was rushed to the E.R. after collapsing at the gym with an excruciating headache and was left with temporary aphasia, or language impairment, after her first surgery. Then doctors discovered a second aneurysm that required a second surgery. Clarke was terrified she'd never act again.

"My job—my entire dream of what my life would be—centered on language, around communication," she wrote in The New Yorker. "Without that, I was lost."

Now, in a new interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Clarke has shared more about her surgeries and recovery—even sharing some new never-before-seen photos of herself in the hospital.


"So, with the second one, there was a bit of my brain that actually died," she says of her second aneurysm in the interview. "If a part of your brain doesn't get blood to it for a minute, it will just no longer work. It's like you short-circuit. So I had that. And they didn't know what it was. They literally were looking at the brain and being like, 'Well, we think it could be her concentration, it could be her peripheral vision [affected].'"

"I always say it's my taste in men that's no longer there," she continues. "That's the part of my brain, yeah, my decent taste in men."

While she's able to joke about it now, there was a time when the actress was very scared about what her future might look like. "I was like, 'What if something has short-circuited in my brain and I can't act anymore?'" she says. "I mean, literally it's been my reason for living for a very long time."

In the interview Clarke reveals that she actually found it easier to stay optimistic during her second surgery and recovery than her first. When asked how she got through it all, the mother of dragons answered, "That was very much like a day-to-day thing. And I definitely went through a period of being down, putting it mildly."

Luckily, Clarke did indeed pull through and has since founded a charity called SameYou, which is focused on brain injury recovery and rehabilitation.

As the end of HBO’s Game of Thrones approaches, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is probably filling Jaime Lannister’s boots for the last time . His character has come a long way since he appeared in Winterfell for the first time. The Danish actor, though, hasn’t always been so thrilled about the transposition of George  R. R. Martin’s saga. Recently Coster-Waldau revealed to James Corden on Wednesday’s Late Late Show that initially he thought the adaptation was “unbelievably bad”.


“There was this pilot that was — 95% was reshot [later],” Coster-Waldau said. “And we sat down, the original cast with Dan and David — the two creators — and they showed this thing to us and it was unbelievably bad. It was absolutely amazing to see. There’s no reason we’re sitting here talking about this today, no one should have picked that up.”

Moreover, the actor said that the HBO drama saw the light only thanks to Richard Plepler. The former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of HBO was the only person enthusiastic about that story. After the pilot was reshot, the show gained more consensus and the rest is in the history books. Eventually, he was the one who got it right.

“But there was one guy, Richard Plepler, who was the CEO of HBO, who was like apparently the only one who went like, ‘This is great! Let’s do it!’ And then we did it, and we reshot,” he added. “But it just goes to show you, you really, you never know.”
