An infamous waterfall in Minnesota is believed by some to lead all the way down to the depths of Hell itself.
Located approximately 1.5 miles from the mouth of the Brule River, the 50ft Devil's Kettle waterfall flows directly in to a pothole where the water, as well as anything unfortunate enough to fall in, disappears in to the murky depths, never to be seen again.
Over the years, visitors to the Devil's Kettle have thrown all manner of objects in to the falls, including GPS devices, in an effort to determine where (or if) the water emerges somewhere downstream.
The mystery has led to speculation that the water may flow all the way to the center of the Earth.
Back in 2017, hydrologists Heather Emerson and Jon Libbey conducted a study of the falls and concluded that the water was indeed escaping and flowing back in to the river further downstream.
They also determined that the reason objects seemed to disappear without a trace after being thrown in was because the sheer force of the water was holding them down against the rocks.
The two scientists had planned to put dye in to the water to solve the mystery once and for all, but were prevented from doing so by the park's management.
As such, for the time being at least, the enigma of the Devil's Kettle continues to endure.
