Samarkand as a displaced Atlantis

Andrew Scheil wrote in his book Babylon under Western Eyes that Samarkand was to his opinion a displaced Babylon. If so then it is a displaced Atlantis. The islamic gates on the pic resemble clearly the Ishtar Gate as the Pillars of Herucles. Samarkand is connected via two rivers with Lake Aral.
