Production continues on the upcoming, and still-untitled Avengers 4 and new photos from the set have arrived confirming Robert Downey Jr. is back as Tony Stark for the 2019 film. You can check them out below and by clicking here.
In addition, a new interview with directors Anthony and Joe Russo has them revealing a little bit more about the preceding Avengers: Infinity War and how they compare it to a heist film.
With Infinity War, the biggest new element to the movie is Thanos and the fact that hes entering the storytelling in a very bold, strong way, to the degree that hes almost one of the leads, Anthony Russo tells CNET. Weve shaped an interesting narrative around him that in some ways leans heavily on a heist film in the fact that hes going after the infinity stones in a much bolder, successful way than he has in the past. The entire movie has that energy of the bad guy being one step ahead of the heroes. We looked at a lot of movies that had that heist-style energy to them, [and] that brought some inspiration.
The extensive cast of Infinity War is also no secret, but the pair revealed that not only are they bringing in new characters for the film, but they will be fleshing out lesser characters.
Theres going to be a lot of unexpected characters, Joe Russo said. There are more surprises packed into this film than any of the others. Part of that is character interactions, new interesting characters, characters that have made small appearances that are really getting fleshed out in this film. A lot of people enjoy the experience, so I dont want to give anything away, but certainly you can expect lots of surprises.
Marvels Avengers: Infinity War is slated for a release in theaters on May 4, 2018. Then, the Avengers assemble again for the still-untitled fourth film, set for May 3, 2019.
