SHADOWGRAM Update Number 399

APRIL 17, 2017

********************************************

Hello, Dark Shadows Fan,

ShadowGram (SG), The Official Newsletter & News Source for Dark Shadows (DS), provides the following news in this ShadowGram Official Dark Shadows News Online Update "Bulletin."

**** LARA PARKER PARTICIPATES AS AN “AUTHOR PERFORMER” AT THE LOS ANGELES TIMES’ FESTIVAL OF BOOKS – USC CAMPUS – SUN, APRIL 23

LARA (Angelique, Cassandra, Alexis, Miranda, Catherine) will be part of the panel discussion “From Page to Screen to Page in Hollywood” at the 22nd Annual “Los Angeles Times Festival of Books” at the University of California (USC) campus in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, April 23 from 3:00-4:00.

Lara tells SHADOWGRAM: “I have never been asked to participate ((in a discussion panel)) before, so I am excited to be on a panel this year. I hope there will be some Dark Shadows fans there since I plan to talk about the fans and how important they are to an author who is writing books based on a TV show.”

The topic indicates the possible path of a story idea in script form that can progress to a broadcast / film / streamed form, then can follow up and/or expand within a published book.

Held in the Salvatori Computer Science Center 101, LARA will join Pamela Ribon, Brian McGreevy, Tod Goldberg and moderator Richard Rayner to explore the topic.

The Salvatori Computer Science Center is located at the southwest corner of the overall Festival area. The nearest entry is Gate 1 by the Gold South Campus Shuttle Stop.

As part of the overall Festival schedule, “Most authors will be signing books at designated signing areas.” After Lara’s discussion panel ends at 4:00, its Signing Area 2 is located northeast of the Salvatori Center, past one additional building, then turning left along Bloom Walk.

Lara will have “Heiress of Collinwood” available for purchase and for personalized signing. Attending fans also can bring their own copies of her novels for signing.

Lara says she looks forward to interacting with the other panelists and the audience. She enjoys meeting and discussing all aspects of books, the writing process, characterizations, themes, creative ideas, and more with the panelists and attendees. (As she did in open, fascinating interactions with fans in the audience during her onstage talk at the Dark Shadows Festival’s “DS 50th Anniversary Halloween in Hollywood” day-long event on Oct. 30, 2016.)

Admission to the Festival of Books is FREE FOR ALL AGES.

Hours are 10:00am to 6:00pm Saturday and 10:00am to 5:00pm Sunday.

For “Indoor Conversations” such as Lara’s discussion panel, “free Conversation Tickets are required” and can be obtained in advance via the Festival of Books site (above) or at ticket booths located at various points around the Festival area.

The entire Festival area on the USC campus is located southwest of downtown LA near the 110 Freeway and Exposition Blvd., next to the LA Memorial Coliseum and between the Natural History Museum and the Staples Center.

Parking structures are located all around the Festival of Books area on the USC campus, and various parking lots are around the nearby Coliseum. These sites possibly require a fee for parking. A “Festival free shuttle bus system” connects to several entry gate points, starting at 9:00am and continuing to 1 hour after the Festival closes each day.

Attendees are encouraged to use public transportation via the Metrorail train lines and Metro bus lines. Public Festival shuttles will run “in a continuous loop” between USC and Union Station.

Following is Lara’s official Festival of Books bio.

---- SHADOWGRAM NOTE: The bio states she’s written 3 DS novels. This “Heiress of Collinwood” actually is her 4th DS novel.

The first 2 were a continuing story that – like DS itself – covered 1960s Collinwood and past centuries. “Angelique’s Descent” explores the character’s life from her childhood through her arrival at Collinwood and later placing the vampire curse on Barnabas. “The Salem Branch” continues that present-day tale but also focuses on Angelique’s earlier incarnation as Miranda during the Witch Trials in late 1600s Salem, Massachusetts. Her 3rd novel “Wolf Moon Rising” carries aspects of the previous present-day Collinwood story but features a time-travel journey to the 1920s Prohibition-Era and a young Elizabeth Collins in love.

Festival of Books bio: “Parker is the author of 3 novels all based on the cult TV soap opera ‘Dark Shadows.’ Before she became an author, she was an actress, and she appeared on ‘DS for 5 years playing the part of the witch, Angelique. Lara was born in Knoxville and grew up in Memphis, Tennessee. She attended Vassar College and graduated from Rhodes College in Memphis with a BA in Philosophy. Lara received her MFA in Creative Writing from Antioch University in Los Angeles. She lives in Topanga Canyon with her husband. Her current book is ‘Dark Shadows: Heiress of Collinwood.’

---- My Speakers Session - Sunday, April 23.”

LA Times 4-16: The Festival of Books is presented “FREE and open to the public” as a “celebration of ideas, creativity and the written word (and) as an open forum for the exchange of ideas and inspiration.”

Under the theme “Every Great Story,” the 2-day event (April 22-23) welcomes 1000s of attendees to “join the conversation with authors, celebrities, musicians, artists, and chefs” from all fields and walks of life. Across both days – Saturday and Sunday – there is a vast range of individual events, author-publisher and other vendor booths with items for purchase, public readings, Q&A sessions, displays, food trucks, activities and features for children and young adults, health and recreational resources, informational sources, onstage performances, live demonstrations, and much more.
