Update Number 385

August 31, 2016

********************************************

Hello, Dark Shadows Fan,

ShadowGram (SG), The Official Newsletter & News Source for Dark Shadows (DS), provides the following news in this ShadowGram Official Dark Shadows News Online Update "Bulletin."

As reported in the recent SHADOWGRAM OFFICIAL DS NEWS ONLINE UPDATE #384, the DS Festival is presenting a very special celebratory event.

The DS 50th Anniversary Encore  – “Halloween in Hollywood” – is Sat., Oct. 29, 2016, at the historic Hollywood Women’s Club.

The celebration will be followed by an optional Sun., Oct. 30, visit to the nearby Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills. This expansive hilltop estate was the on-location filming site for Collinwood in the 1991 DS primetime series and the 2004 DS pilot (also different views as the Old House).

--- SATURDAY, OCTOBER 29:

All festivities take place from 12:00 noon-12:00 midnight on Sat., Oct. 29, at the historic Hollywood Women’s Club at 1749 La Brea Avenue, Hollywood, California 90046.

The Women’s Club is located in the heart of Hollywood, within walking distance to many iconic and world-renowned entertainment, historic, scenic, and tourist attractions.

((Please also see ShadowGram Online Update #384, available at the ShadowGram Group at Yahoo.com))

Fans of all ages are encouraged to participate in the just-for-fun DS / Halloween Costume Party on Sat. evening, sharing their own DS creativity and enthusiasm. Please contact Marcy Robin at ShadowGram@aol.com for more information.

On Saturday, sandwiches, beverages, and snacks will be for sale on site and there are numerous restaurants nearby.

---- CHARITY AUCTION – SPECIAL ITEMS:

Our charity auction with rare and unusual items will feature NANCY BARRETT’s original “Carolyn Stoddard” vampire fangs from the 1970 movie “House of DS,” and KATHRYN LEIGH SCOTT’s original 1966 “Maggie Evans” hairpiece and DS script.

**** ShadowGram Premiere-Announces: CHARITY AUCTION HIGHLIGHT:

The auction also will offer the special opportunity for 10 lucky fans to win Sunday brunch (Sun., Oct. 30) with KATHRYN LEIGH SCOTT at her Beverly Hills home, before visiting the nearby Greystone Mansion with Kathryn.

On Sunday, all fans are encouraged to carpool, uber, or taxi to the nearby Greystone Estate, 905 Loma Vista Dr., Beverly Hills, CA 90210.

There you can acknowledge the 25th Anniversary of the nighttime DS series, the only primetime TV DS version. Different rooms and views were used as Collinwood. Airing 1-13 to 3-22, 1991, its 13 hours told a condensed, more intense version of the story of Barnabas’ release from the coffin into modern-day Collinsport, with a flashback to 1791, leading to Angelique’s vampire curse.

The elegant rooms and grounds also were used extensively to shoot location scenes for a 2004 pilot ordered by the WB network. This proposed TV series also revisited Barnabas’ origin story. The pilot was not picked up by the network.

Built in 1927-28 by oil magnate Edward Doheny and now owned by the city of Beverly Hills, the grounds are a city park, open free to the public to visit 10:00am-6:00pm daily. Buildings are closed to the public. It offers impressive views of the Los Angeles area spread below the hills. The building exteriors/interiors and estate grounds are frequent filming locations for movies, TV shows, commercials, music videos, etc. Weddings, receptions, concerts, readings, exhibits, flower shows, classic car shows, and special events also are held there throughout the year.

Sidewalks on both sides of the boulevard and 3 blocks on both sides of Vine St. feature separate, distinctive, embedded 5-pointed terrazzo and brass stars that honor 2900+ individuals and entities recognized across the decades.

Visitors can freely wander the forecourt, take photos, etc. The distinctive Chinese Theatre itself has long been used for major motion picture premieres and other special occasions.

All along Hollywood Blvd., nearby Sunset Blvd., and adjacent streets are unique special attractions such as the Hollywood & Highland Entertainment Complex (frequent venue for the Academy (Oscar) Awards and other entertainment ceremonies), the Hollywood Wax Museum, historic El Capitan and Egyptian Theaters, Ripley’s Believe It or Not!
