The series follows the continuing supernatural adventures of Ichabod Crane in modern-day Sleepy Hollow.

It was a rough day for TV fans everywhere yesterday as numerous broadcast shows were unceremoniously cancelled. Shows like "Agent Carter," "The Muppets," "The Grinder," "Grandfathered," "Nashville," and "CSI: Cyber" all received the proverbial axe. Yet, there's at least some good news for fans of supernatural dramas: Fox's "Sleepy Hollow" has been officially renewed for a fourth season. "Sleepy Hollow's" third season finale featured a shocking turn of events: Agent Abbie Mills (played by series co-star Nicole Beharie) sacrifices her soul to bring down the evil Pandora (Shannyn Sossamon), and though Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) tries to bring her back to life, he is ultimately unsuccessful. According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources say that Beharie had been unhappy on the series for quite some time and was actively trying to leave the show; in fact, Abbie was supposed to die in the mid-season finale, but she stuck around until the end of the season.

Created in part by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci from "Fringe" fame, "Sleepy Hollow" has aired on Fox since 2013, garnering mostly positive reviews during its run. Though Mison is best known for "Sleepy Hollow," he also appears in Lone Scherfig's romantic drama "One Day" and Lasse Hallström's "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen." Meanwhile, Beharie rose to fame by co-starring in Steve McQueen's 2011 drama "Shame."

"Sleepy Hollow" will return to Fox next season at an unspecified date.
