Universal Monsters Movie Schedule Adds Mystery 2019 Film
Silas LesnickMay 03, 2016

The Universal Monsters movie schedule changeth!
The Universal Monsters movie schedule has been updated with a mystery 2019 release

The Universal Monsters movie schedule has been updated again today with the announcement of a third Universal Monsterverse film set for release February 15, 2019. The mystery Universal Monsters movie will follow the Alex Kurtzman-helmed The Mummy, which lands in theaters June 9, 2017, as well as another mystery Monsterverse movie set for release April 13, 2018.

Although neither the 2018 or 2019 Universal Monsters movie releases have revealed their titles, it’s a likely bet that one of them will be the new big-screen take on The Invisible Man. Such a project is confirmed to be in development at the studio with the recent news that Johnny Depp has plans to play the film’s visibly-challenged protagonist. Other Universal Monsters movies are in the works, too, however, including a new film on The Wolfman.

All three Universal Monsters movies are said to be part of the studio’s “New initiative to revive and reimagine Universal’s classic monsters for a modern audience.” All the films in the series will be produced and overseen by the creative team of Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan.

The Mummy boasts a screenplay by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) and stars Sofia Boutella as the title monster with Tom Cruise set to play a mystery role.

Fargo executive producer Noah Hawley is also said to be writing another one of the films in the series, with Prisoners scribe Aaron Guzikowski penning the reboot of The Wolfman.

The 2019 Universal Monsters movie is the first major release to claim the February 15 release date. It will arrive one week after Paramount Pictures‘ third SpongeBob SquarePants movie.

Which of the Universal Monsters would you like to see get new big screen versions first? Let us know in the comments below!

Marvel's take on the classic movie monsters would also be interesting. I'd like to see a Marvel Monster series featuring Werewolf by Night, Man-Thing, Morbius, Dracula, Ghost Rider, Brother VooDoo and the Frankenstein Monster. But what Marvel really excels at is bringing all of the supporting characters and unknown characters to life on screen. Marvel could easily bring "The Golem", Man-Wolf, Damien Hellstorm, Satan, Satanna, Cadaver (look him up), Doctor Druid, Mr Hyde, The Living Mummy and many more Marvel Monsters. Universal did do a good job with the first Mummy remake.
