On the morning of the 22nd of January, I took my dog Cookie into the vet for breathing problems. Cookie was the pup of my Missy who died the year before. When they brought her back for an X-ray, she apparently took a turn for the worse and had to put her on oxygen and IV fluids. Then, they had me come see her to try and calm her down, said she might not make it through the day. Apparently, it was either a mass in her lungs of pneumonia, they were leaning towards the cancer. I could not believe how swiftly she degenerated, prayed it was something they could fix, but it was not. I gave Cookie a kiss goodbye, told her she was always a good girl, then asked multiple questions of the vet. Almost as soon as I got home, they called me and told me she had passed away.

I still don't quite get what happened. She had these panting episodes for the last three years, but got worse the last two weeks. If it was cancer, it was not detected on earlier visits. Her appetite was great all the time, just last night, on her last night she ate a lot of chicken. I will have her cremated and will be getting the ashes back as the ground is too cold and hard to bury her outside.

Cookie was a great little dog, she was the toughest of her litter until she got a back injury a few years ago. I always tried to give her more food than the others because she eventually had gotten so frail, loved hard boiled eggs and ice cubes. Her sisters were actually crying when I got the bad news, as if they sensed what happened. Well, she is with Missy, her mommy again
now and hopefully they are playing together.

If there is such a thing as heaven, our pets better rejoin us there, else, for me, at least, it wouldn't be much of a heaven at all.  I will always love you, Cookie, when it came to dogs, you were golden.

Lots of dogs and cats need good homes. If you can have a pet at your place, please rescue one, dogs especially are loyal and loving companions.
