Jetpack flown in front of Statue of Liberty
Posted on Tuesday, 10 November, 2015

The jetpack test was certainly impressive. Image Credit: YouTube / Jetpack Aviation
Australian entrepreneur David Mayman took to the skies over the Hudson River in New York City last week.
It might have taken the better part of ten years to develop, but the compact and impressive JB-9 is as real as it gets - a personal jetpack that could one day be available to buy in the shops.

The lightweight pack, which is small enough to fit in the trunk of a car and can last for ten minutes on a single tank of fuel, is capable of reaching altitudes of over 3km and speeds of up to 63 mph.

A more advanced model capable of reaching speeds of up to 100mph is also currently being developed and will come complete with improved safety features such as a parachute.

To help demonstrate its capabilities the jetpack's inventor, David Mayman, took to the air in front of the Statue of Liberty last week to perform a series of impressive aerial maneuvers.

It isn't clear when the final product will be available or who will be able to purchase it however it is understood that the military, which has been looking for ways to deploy troops in to remote areas, could be interested in acquiring it.

10 minutes is not a lot, you got to keep a good record of time in one of these, I can imagine I would get carried away (no pun intended) and just keep flying, til 10 minutes is up I am down. But it sure is a start, love it. :tu:

It may be safe enough with trained stuntmen but can you imagine what would happen if this ever was made availabel to the public? Surely we can only hope that they'd insist that one would need proper qualifications, or that they'd be so expensive that ordinary people would never possibly be able to afford them.

True, we have enough problems with people in transport with the wheels touching terra firma, let alone have them flying around...and where do they put the traffic lights?

Of course the Military gets the cool toys before the civilian population does.

Looks exactly like the 'Flying Humanoid Entity Phenomenon' often linked to UFOs and Aliens.
