Woman 'spontaneously combusts' in park

Medics were called when the woman mysteriously caught fire without any apparent cause or explanation.
The bizarre incident took place in a park in Germany where the woman, who had been sitting on a bench minding her own business, reportedly burst in to flames without any warning.

Shocked passers-by called the emergency services while one brave man attempted to smother out the flames using his own jacket but it was too little, too late - the woman was already badly burned.

When medics arrived she was loaded on to a helicopter and rushed to a hospital in the city of Lubeck however her injuries were severe and she continues to remain in a critical condition.

Investigators have since been attempting to determine exactly what happened and haven't ruled out the possibility that the woman may have set herself on fire in a bid to commit suicide.

The actual phenomenon of spontaneous human combustion (SHC), which has been studied extensively over the centuries, typically sees a victim burst in to flames and burn to death without any apparent means of ignition and without damaging anything else in the vicinity of the fire.

Whether that's what actually happened to the woman in this case however remains unclear.

It sounds like an after effect of an alien weapon.

Or maybe she was struck down by an angel or demon.

The woman might have been a junkie heating up the next fix... inside the jacket (common junkie knowhow) with a spoon full of highly flamable acetone (or whatever that chemical is called they use to mix into heroine so they can shoot it). Comon tales of SHC is mostly a case of human body equals candle wax... slowly burning over a week or two... like a candle... attraction not much attention... until mama comes home from Tenerife.

I might suggest that some of these spontaneous combustion incidents may the result of extreme metabolic states. For example, ketoacidosis, a diabetic state, causes the release of ketones of which the highly flammable acetone is the simplest. Dieting and alcoholic states can also yield acetone. Add a static spark or flame and there is combustion.

You sure about that? Meditation can do some pretty interesting things and 37 degrees is only an average for human body temperature, but if it goes up by as little as five degrees, it's lethal. Even temperatures a degree or so below that can cause catastrophic brain damage. But eight degrees above base (113F)? At that point, neural tissues are cooking like egg whites and DNA is unspooling and denaturing across the whole body. And the brain's just the most sensitive piece of hardware to get fried. Raising the body's internal temperatures to 45 degrees is going to damage every organ in the body.

Right, because Russian authority figures are historically renowned for their candor with the public, especially in the face of something they have no immediate explanation for. The phenomenon was first named back in the 1700's and even one of Charles Dickens' characters died via SHC, but it was only seriously explored during the past 30-or-so years, when forensic techniques and parapsychology began to develop. Historically, SHC has been anecdotal and used as a nigh-religious cautionary tale against alcohol by prohibitionists and actual events were likely attributed to mundane fire.

Same as the alcoholism theory. Acetone and ketones burns easy as anything, but by the time the body's generated anywhere near the amount needed to ignite and sustain combustion against the body's water content, the individual will have been dead a couple hundred times over via the original acidosis. Actually, given the way acidosis affects the body and the mechanisms in place against it, bump that estimate up a couple orders of magnitude to a thousand or more times dead.
