Spirits refuse to rust in peace at Birmingham scrapyard

A spirit has been spotted at a Birmingham scrap metal business.

It’s the Birmingham scrap metal business where the spirits refuse to rust in peace.

Steel yourself before taking a close look at the window of the office block at Taronis, in Aston.

There is clearly a face, the tortured image captured during a routine photo-shoot. It is the country’s first scrap metal spook.

And it is yet more evidence that something not of this world is lurking in the room, used to store car parts: an eerie place where things go bumper in the night.

The hardened, five-strong work force freely admit to being scared of entering the cold, dank room.

Documents have mysteriously moved, loud bangs echo from the confined space and temperatures plunge for no reason.

Recently, the workforce arrived to find the place flooded. The source of the leak was a smashed toilet in the washroom directly above.

Yet, the compound and block are extensively alarmed. Bells should’ve rung if vandals broke-in.

Now manager Chris Ward is poised to call in a medium to discover which tormented soul is trapped among the broken motors.

The 51-year-old said: “I’d think twice about going up there at night and one guy refused to go up there at all.

“One customer came out absolutely white-faced. He claimed something had come out of the wall.”

The image was snapped by Chris’ nephew, Wesley Topham, while he was taking pictures for the company website.

It was only later that he discovered the ghostly image at the window.

Chris added: “There’s definitely something going on. You go up there and the temperature drops so much you have to catch your breath.

“We’ve been here six years and when the previous owners visited, their first question was, ‘have you seen the ghost?’

One medium has already put forward a theory, claiming the site haunted by a little boy.

Some visitors to the company’s facebook site can see a second image, to the left. Julie Topham posted: “It’s a boy, such a sad soul. He was very hungry and left to fend for himself. He got trapped and burned in a fire.”

But the old lady, who remains in the Victorian building’s store room, remains a mystery.

It’s not the first bury unusual incident at the Rocky Lane yard. Last July workers were presented with a steel coffin for scrap.

And things got positively chilling 24 hours later when a 1994 Ford Grosvenor hearse was handed over for scrap. “We’re just waiting for the headstone,” laughed one employee.

The casket mystery deepened when the lid, which can only be opened with an allen key, was lifted and funeral parlour papers from Trinidad discovered inside.

Stan Baldwin said at the time: “I’ve worked here for 20 years, off and on, and it’s the first time I’ve had a coffin handed in.

“We think someone went to the trouble, and expense, to have it brought over here, then realised they couldn’t use it. It’s illegal in this country because it’s not biodegradable.”

One thing’s certain. The individual – and Taronis kept the client’s identity under wraps – who handed over the casket was left seriously out of pocket. Stan, aged 50, reckons it was worth £2,000 new. Its scrap value was estimated at £9.
