Discovery's Destination America network will be broadcasting an exorcism live on television this year.
The program, which will be called 'Exorcism: Live!', is set to revisit the house that inspired author William Peter Blatty's novel The Exorcist as well as William Friedkin's 1973 adaptation of it.

Both were based on the real-life exorcism of a young boy from Cottage City, Maryland in 1949.

"The live event will take place at the original Exorcist House in the suburbs of St. Louis where the infamous ritual was performed on Roland Doe in 1949," the show's promotional material reads.

"No one has ever attempted to rid the lurking spirits and demons that inhabit this home, until now.."

The broadcast is set to feature a detailed paranormal investigation of the house as well live coverage of the exorcism that will seek to banish evil spirits from the building.

The program is set to coincide with the 66th anniversary of the original Maryland exorcism.

"As we step into one of the most haunted and well-known spirit destinations in America, Exorcism: Live! will show exactly what is inside this infamous, highly dangerous and possessed home," said Destination America's General Manager Marc Etkind.

Whether anything paranormal will happen during the broadcast however remains to be seen.

Exorcism Live! airs on Destination America on Friday, Oct. 30 at 9/8c.

Discovery's Destination America network will air what it says is the first televised exorcism in history on Oct. 30, 2015. NEW YORK, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- A reality television first is scheduled for the eve of Halloween this year: The telecast of a live exorcism.

Discovery's Destination America network will air Exorcism: Live! on Oct. 30. The program will revisit the real life story -- and the house -- that inspired William Peter Blatty's 1971 novel and William Friedkin's 1973 film -- both titled The Exorcist, the Hollywood Reporter reported Friday.

The film, starring Linda Blair and Max Von Sydow, focuses on a demonically possessed girl and a priest's efforts to rid the devil from her body. The film was based on an actual event in St. Louis in 1949, which will observe its 66th anniversary this year.

"No one has ever attempted to rid the lurking spirits and demons that inhabit this home -- until now," promotional material for the program says.

A team of paranormal investigators will go through the house, using modern ghost-hunting technology, the Hollywood Reporter said.

Viewers will also be able to add to their experience by viewing a number of live cameras placed throughout the home, and communicate via social media, the Los Angeles Times reported.

"As we step into one of the most haunted and well-known spirit destinations in America, Exorcism: Live! will show exactly what is inside this infamous, highly dangerous and possessed home," Destination America General Manager Marc Etkind said. "By actually exorcising this iconic house live, Destination America will do what it does best -- bringing never-before-seen experiences to television."

Exorcism: Live! will air Friday, Oct. 30 at 9 p.m./8 p.m. Central, the network said.

Ratings. I'll admit, though, I'm a little interested in hearing more about the original exorcism.

Extra TV ratings will boost the holy spirit to cleanse the house! Can I get a Hallelujah!

I wonder how much will be actual investigation and how much will be people jumping at their own shadows.

Seems like a bad idea, all around. If it really is a demon ... why would you give it LIVE access to TV!? On the other side, if it's just people doing it for ratings ... it better have a disclaimer that it is staged or fake because the human rights violations would be astronomical.

In the late 80s or maybe early 90s Randi was part of a show hosted by Bill Bixby called "Exploring Psychic Mysteries: Live!" One of the "psychics" was Sylvia Browne, who "read" members of the audience, and failed miserably, as did every one of the Live! psychics. I expect this won't do any better.
