The problem with saucer-like craft is stability. Try pushing a Frisbee through the air as opposed to spinning it. At the very least, some UFO reports were in reality misperceptions of experimental planes like the U-2, SR-71, F-117, etc through the 1970s. And never discount the will to believe.
