I totally agree. Ufology and the Cold War went hand in hand. How it all worked is beyond me, but it was, as you say, a time of paranoia and fear: perfect for imaginations to run riot. I have a memory of one of the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks between Gerald Ford and Leonid Brezhnev in the early 1970's. After months of negotiations the two men sat down and signed the papers. Despite the smiles and handshakes, the hostility between the two men was palpable.
