The X-Files is returning for a six-part series with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson back as Mulder and Scully.

20th Century Fox confirmed production will begin this summer. A broadcast date is yet to be announced.

The show about two FBI agents investigating the supernatural ended in 2002, and fans have always held out hope of a reunion.

• David Duchovny: X-Files reunion is happening

• Gillian Anderson: It's time someone was brave enough to ask me out

The new series will be written by the original creator, Chris Carter. "I think of it as a 13-year commercial break. The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories," he said.

David Duchovny indicated last month that a reunion was on the cards.

"It's almost like going out on a greatest hits tour. It would be a lark. And I think it's going to happen pretty soon," he said.

The X-Files is the latest series to be revived, following the announcement that Twin Peaks is coming back to the small screen.

Gary Newman and Dana Walden, joint chairman of Fox Television, said: "We had the privilege of working with Chris on all nine seasons of The X-Files - one of the most rewarding creative experiences of our careers - and we couldn't be more excited to explore that incredible world with him again.

"The X-Files was not only a seminal show for both the studio and the network, it was a worldwide phenomenon that shaped pop culture yet remained a true gem for the legions of fans who embraced it from the beginning.

"Few shows on television have drawn such dedicated fans as The X-Files and we're ecstatic to give them the next thrilling chapter of Mulder and Scully they've been waiting for."

David Duchovny Hopes To Return As Denise Bryson In Twin Peaks

First X-Files, now this. The new Twin Peaks is set to premiere some time in 2016, and members of the original cast are slowly signing on for the show's return. Will David Duchovny reprise his role as DEA agent Denise Bryson?

"Seems like it," Duchovny told the L.A. Times, in response to a question tacked on to the verrrrry tail end of his interview with Carolyn Kellogg about his newly published novel, Holy Cow. "I would bet on it if I were you. I think Twin Peaks is happening for sure. I hope my character comes back, I think she does. And then X-Files — Fox made some kind of shadowy announcement last week. Certainly, something's happening. Something's brewing. It's like the Eagles' greatest hits tour … by me."

The X-Files to return to TV after 13-year absence

The X-Files is set to return to television screens for the first time in 13 years, with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson resuming their roles as Mulder and Scully.

The US broadcaster Fox has confirmed that a six-episode series will begin production in the summer. The broadcast date has yet to be revealed.

The series creator Chris Carter described the show’s absence as “a 13-year commercial break” and added: “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”

The six-episode run is shorter than most US TV series, and Fox described the X-Files return as an “event”. Dana Walden and Gary Newman, chair and CEO of Fox Television Group, said: “We had the privilege of working with Chris on all nine seasons of The X-Files – one of the most rewarding creative experiences of our careers – and we couldn’t be more excited to explore that incredible world with him again.

“The X-Files was not only a seminal show for both the studio and the network, it was a worldwide phenomenon that shaped pop culture – yet remained a true gem for the legions of fans who embraced it from the beginning. Few shows on television have drawn such dedicated fans as The X-Files, and we’re ecstatic to give them the next thrilling chapter of Mulder and Scully they’ve been waiting for.”

The original series was cancelled in 2002, although Duchovny and Anderson returned for a feature film, X-Files: I want to Believe, in 2008. Rumours of the show’s return have swirled around the internet for years, and in 2013 Anderson and Duchovny generated much excitement when they hinted during an online discussion that another X-Files film might be in the works.

Such was the on-screen chemistry between FBI investigators Fox Mulder and Dana Scully in their quest to explain the unexplained that Anderson and Duchovny themselves became a story – according to the press at various times during the height of the show’s popularity, they were having an affair, hated each other or both.

This year Anderson told the Guardian’s Simon Hattenstone: “I mean, yes, there were definitely periods when we hated each other … Hate is too strong a word. We didn’t talk for long periods of time. It was intense, and we were both pains in the arse for the other at various times.”

Since the last X-Files series, Anderson has starred in a string of literary adaptations – as Lady Dedlock in Bleak House, Lily Bart in The House of Mirth, Miss Havisham in the BBC’s Great Expectations, and Mrs Castaway in The Crimson Petal and The White – and more recently she played Supt Stella Gibson in murder drama The Fall, which has been recommissioned for a third series set to air next year.

Anderson also received warm reviews for her performance as Blanche in a feted Young Vic revival of Tennessee Williams’s A Streetcar Named Desire.

Duchovny found further success in the US with Californication, which finished a seven-season run last year. This year he published his debut novel, Holy Cow, in which a cow called Elsie, a pig called Shalom and a turkey called Tom escape a farm in upstate New York in search of a better life.

Twin Peaks may not return after all, says David Lynch

David Lynch has suggested that Twin Peaks may not return to screens as previously announced.

The show's creator spoke to crowds at the opening of the Between Two Worlds exhibition in Brisbane, revealing that there are "complications" surrounding the project.

He added: "I'm not sure at this point if it's happening."

Fan site Welcome to Twin Peaks has suggested that while scripts for the project are finished, contract negotiations haven't been finalized.

Lynch also spoke about season three of Twin Peaks on ABC News show The Mix, saying that it would be "very special" to return to the show.

The Inland Empire director said: "I haven't returned yet and we're still working on the contract, but I love the world of Twin Peaks and I love those characters. And I think it will be very special to go back into that world."

Created by Lynch and Mark Frost, Twin Peaks first aired on ABC for two seasons in 1990. The series starred Kyle MacLachlan as Dale Cooper, an FBI special agent investigating the murder of homecoming queen Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee).

The show's revival was announced in October, before Lynch claimed that MacLachlan would be returning to his role.

The planned Twin Peaks revival is reportedly still moving forward.

Series co-creator David Lynch recently stated that he was "not sure" if plans to bring back the cult series were going ahead.

However, Entertainment Weekly reports that the Showtime project is progressing as expected and will still air in 2016.

First announced in October 2014, the Twin Peaks revival is expected to span nine episodes, with Lynch announced as directing the entire season and also co-writing alongside Mark Frost.

Kyle MacLachlan (Dale Cooper), Sheryl Lee (Laura Palmer), Dana Ashbrook (Bobby Briggs) and Catherine E Coulson (The Log Lady) will all reprise their roles.

Showtime president David Nevins previously vowed that the network would not interfere with Frost and Lynch's writing process.

Twin Peaks Documentary Coming To BBC Radio

While we wait for more word on when Twin Peaks will return to TV on Showtime — and hopefully not if, considering some comments over the past few weeks by David Lynch that caused a few nervous moments — we can at least hear more about it on the radio.

BBC Radio, that is, as it’s presenting a documentary about the series that will air on BBC Radio 4 on April 6. Hosted by Danny Leigh, the program will also bring on DJ Rob da Bank to discuss the Twin Peaks soundtrack, filmmaker Richard Ayoade and authors Denise Mina and Andy Burns.

The show will air originally at 4 pm, which is 11 am Eastern time in the US. Fans in the States can listen to the documentary online on the BBC Radio website, and I’m thinking it might be archived there as well.

It’s always good to have the series discussed in a forum like this just to keep the fires properly stoked for next year. BBC stuff is almost universally well done, so this should be an informative and entertaining look at how Twin Peaks continues to influence TV and pop culture in general today.

And after all, isn’t that why we’re looking forward to seeing more of it?

Masi Oka to Return for NBC’s Heroes Reborn
Spencer Perry Mar 27, 2015

Masi Oka

NBC has announced another casting addition to the upcoming “Heroes Reborn” as Masi Oka will reprise his Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated role as Hiro Nakamura for a guest-starring arc in the series.

“I’m excited to return to my ‘Heroes’ roots,” said Oka. “Hiro Nakamura was such an inspirational role to play, and I’m hoping the fans will enjoy seeing him back on TV.”

“We are thrilled to have Masi back in the ‘Heroes’ family,” said creator/executive producer Tim Kring. “The character of Hiro Nakamura was such a huge part of the first series’ success, and a gigantic fan favorite. We felt the fans would really love seeing him back in action again.”

Oka joins a cast that will feature returning cast member Jack Coleman and newcomers Zachary Levi, Ryan Guzman, Robbie Kay, Danika Yarosh, Judith Shekoni, Kiki Sukezane, Henry Zebrowski and Gatlin Green.

“Heroes Reborn” will debut this year as a limited series reboot of the popular show. The original series chronicled the life-changing stories of a series of unrelated ordinary people who discovered they had superhuman abilities. As the saga unfolded, they learned they were part of a grand plan that brought them together to change the world.

Prior to the debut of “Heroes Reborn” this fall, NBC is expected to launch a digital series that will introduce the characters and new storylines. Plot details for the new episodes have yet to be disclosed, but the series is said to follow a new stand-alone story arc.

“Heroes” creator Tim Kring is executive producing with James Middleton and Peter Elkoff. Matt Shakman is directing the opening episode. You can watch the teaser that debuted during the Super Bowl using the player below.

Chris Carter and David Duchovny on the Return of The X-Files
SuperHeroHype Mar 28, 2015

the x-files

“Twin Peaks,” “Coach,” and “The X-Files.” All our favorite shows are coming back, the latter of which always seemed to make the most sense. After all, “The X-Files” affords endless possibilities and unexplainable mysteries for Scully & Mulder to probe. Now that their return is official, just what can viewers and fans expect? Series creator Chris Carter and star David Duchovny have spoken out a bit, teasing heavily but revealing a bit about returning players, where the revival will stand and the nature of the episodes.

Calling it a mix of mythology and standalone episodes, Chris Carter discussed the impending “X-Files” resurrection with X-Files News. Hitting a series of bullets, Carter says the six-episode event will be present-set, explaining, “We’re going to tell X-Files the way that we’ve always told them; we will of course set them in the time and place that they exist. We’re telling contemporary stories about contemporary situations, true to Mulder and Scully’s characters and their relationship and the passage of time.”

Putting the series in the present seems to leave “X-Files” news with questions about 2012 and ‘colonization.’ Carter says, “I’ve thought about that. I don’t know exactly how I’m going to address it, in a big way, a mild way, a modern way, a mention or a plot point. And of course you can’t avoid to deal with the William (arc) in some way or another.”

On the cast and crew tip meanwhile, many will be excited to hear Carter herald the return of Glen Morgan and James Wong, describing Morgan as being in a producing position and saying, “We’ve lured Darin Morgan and Jim Wong, we’re very excited about that and we’re working on the rest.” As for cast, he teases, “I have ideas for everyone.”

Duchovny also talked to the NY Times and was asked whether the new “X-Files” will be serialized or just like a collection of movies of the week. “We’re gonna do both. I’m pretty sure it’s gonna begin and end with the mythology. But I really don’t know,” he said.

Production on “The X-Files” event series is set to begin this summer in Vancouver.

Twin Peaks revival: Showtime won't interfere with David Lynch
By Justin Harp Wednesday, Jan 14 2015, 12:35pm EST

Showtime president David Nevins has vowed that the network will not interfere with Mark Frost and David Lynch's writing process on Twin Peaks.

The critically-acclaimed series will return to television in 2016 after a 25-year hiatus, with lead actor Kyle MacLachlan reprising his role as FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper.

Nevins told reporters at the TCA press tour earlier this week that Frost and Lynch will have creative freedom in crafting the storyline for season three.

"[We'll be] more or less writing checks and leaving them alone. It's David's show, it's Mark's show, I will be the grateful recipient of it," the executive said.

He went on to say: "I will say that they have been very specific in promising closure, and that's exciting."

Nevins also said during his TCAs appearance that he practically "begged" Lynch to agree to direct all nine episodes of the new season.

Twin Peaks revival: Mark Frost writing new book to bridge 25-year gap

Twin Peaks co-creator Mark Frost is writing a new book that will bridge the gap between the original series and the upcoming Showtime revival.

Flatiron Books has announced that it will publish The Secret Lives of Twin Peaks in late 2015 as part of the run-up to new episodes premiering in 2016.

Frost's book will offer key details on what has happened to the residents of Twin Peaks over the last 25 years.

The Secret Lives of Twin Peaks will also explore the supernatural elements from the original series.

"This has long been a dream project of mine that will bring a whole other aspect of the world of Twin Peaks to life, for old fans and new," Frost said in a statement.

"I couldn't be more thrilled."

A previous Twin Peaks spinoff book titled The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer, written by David Lynch's daughter Jennider, was released between the show's first and second seasons in 1990.

Mark Frost's brother Scott Frost wrote The Autobiography of FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper: My Life, My Tapes - ostensibly a transcription of Cooper's dictaphone recordings and released in 1991.

Frost and David Lynch are beginning work on an all-new string of nine episodes to premiere in 2016.

The revived series was announced by Showtime on October 6, days after Frost and Lynch had fuelled rumors about the show's future on social media.

Kyle MacLachlan, Mädchen Amick and Peggy Lipton are among the Twin Peaks cast members who have expressed interest in returning for the revived series.
