Atlantis-Tartessos in Donana? A Geological and Archaeological Test
«

My view that the capital of Atlantis/Tartessos was situated on the Pacil de Cardales within the Donana National Park in Spain [1] attracted worldwide media interest [2-4]. A geological and archaeological expedition was performed in order to test this view. The National Geographic documentary film "Finding Atlantis" reported in 2011 about this expedition. My view renewed and intensified the geological interest in the search for ancient tsunamis in the Donana National Park [5-14]. The results of the geological test were published in research journals [12-14], those of the archaeological test in a book [15].
Evidence of four ancient tsunamis was found which destroyed and recreated parts of what is now the Donana National Park.
The first tsunami occurred about 2100 BC. It destroyed the southern part of the El Abalario dune system. This sand formed the Carrizosa-Vetalarena chenier and the Veta de los Acebuches chenier. Human-made artifacts such as flintstone, treated bone and pottery sherds were found within the Carrizosa-Vetalarena chenier and provide evidence that the tsunami destroyed a human settlement on the El Abalario dune system.
The second tsunami occurred about 1600 BC. It formed the Marilopez chenier by sand from the Donana spit.
The third tsunami occurred about 1200 BC. It destroyed the southern part of the La Algaida spit and a nearby human settlement. It formed the Veta de los Tarajes chenier.
The fourth tsunami occurred about 200 BC. It destroyed the southern part of the La Algaida spit and a pre-Roman sanctuary on it. The tsunami created the Vetalengua spit and the Las Nuevas beach ridge by sand from the Donana spit.
Aerial photos, magnetometry and an archaeological survey provide evidence of a rectangular building of 50 meters length and 40 meters width in the southern part of the Horno del Mal Tiempo. Numerous pottery sherds which typologically date from the Islamic period (8th to 13th century AD) and two statuettes out of limestone were detected within this rectangular form.
Electrical resistivity tomography provides evidence of a quasi-periodical artifical form three to five meters below the soil of the southern part of the Pacil de Cardales. Ground-penetrating radar and aerial photos provide evidence of a nearby rectangular form. Aerial photos provide evidence of four rectangular forms in the northern part of the Pacil de Cardales.

Thank you for the update at last, Dr. Kuhne. Any discoveries to fit your view of Atlantis? I am still going through your links, so excuse me if that has been covered elsewhere.

Tartessos does seem to be somewhere between Huelva/Tinto and the Guadalquivir, with the two best candidates being Huelva and Donana.
(Atlantis (city) is Tiahuanaco though.)
Is there any link with Tarshish ("mine, (to) smelt, smelting plant, (metal) refinery" / "yellow/jasper" / "solid/rocky" / "a destruction that breaks into pieces of white, ie white volcanic ash rock or pumice")?

Hello Dr. Kühne, how much contact did you have with the Freund expedition, were you there, too? It seems like there was not much found there that actually corresponded with Plato's account other than the area was hit by tsunamis and was outside the Pillars.

This power came forth out of the Atlantic Ocean. But afterwards there occurred violent earthquakes and floods; and in a single day and night of misfortune all your warlike men in a body sank into the earth, and the island of Atlantis in like manner disappeared in the depths of the sea.

Kleinkind
*********************

Was kam hinter dieser Begrenzung?

Bundeswehrzeit
***********************************

www.mysteria3000.de
, später auch bei viXra:
http://vixra.org/abs/1103.0041
.

Dear Chronos, Goddess of Love Hate & Fury, senator Bam, and Desiree,
I do not think that Atlantis was discovered. I do think that Atlantis was a philosophical fiction by Plato. However, the culture west of the Pillars of Heracles which is rich in metals such as gold, silver and copper could refer to Tartessos. So I think that Tartessos (among others such as Syracuse and Troy) was a model for Plato's Atlantis.
The rectangular forms are seen from aerial photos made from an unmanned airplane (by Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt, Dr. Holger Friehmelt, in 2006) and a balloon (WorleyParsons, Dr. Paul Bauman, in 2009). I am not entitled to distribute the photos, they are owned by the CSIC team (Prof. Sebastian Celestino Perez and collaborators). We have to wait until they publish the photos in a scientific journal.
Prof. Richard Freund's (sub-)team is associated with Prof. Sebastian Celestino Perez's team. Sebastian Celestino Perez is the head of the (super-)team.
I have been in Donana. However, I am not an author of the team's papers.

Not to seem ignorant of the subject, but I would say that Huelva is only a beginning point to reach Atlantis, just as it is was the starting point for Columbus in his first voyage to prove the world round. Even after considering that it is a point outside the straight of Hercules, and therefore a point to be taken in consideration as a possible location amongst the many "facts" of Plato's tale. I'm brand new here, so I'm just testing the waters, and don't see any "shoal of mud" even though I find it murky.

Hermocrates & Dr Kuhne,
Atlantis was not fiction, the account says it is true history not philosophical, the spring wsa found at Athens just like the account says, etc; plus Atlantis has been discovered, we have found the capital city at Tiahuanaco, see
http://atlantisonline.smfforfree2.com/index.php/topic,33831.msg258365.html#new
and Atlantis page/paper at 2rbetterthan1.wordpress.com . Is Troy fiction?
Tartessos was seemingly somewhere in southern Spain, maybe Huelva (which has Hercules connection, or maybe Donana). (Atlas Mtns were in Africa on other side. (They parallel Andes.))
Yes Atlantis was beyond the Pillars/Tartessos/Spain/Africa. Atlantis can only be either north/south America (excl/incl lesser Antartica) or Armorica plate. And only one place there matches the plain, mountains, sea, city, etc: Tiahuanaco. The staute of man on horse in Azores pointed (?south)west with name/word cates "this way" in Quechua.
Atlantis was usually reached from Africa in various sources. Africa sticks out further than Spain, just as South America is centred further east than North America. (Strabo is abit different in having Spain as sacred promontory.) Tartessos was 700(0) yrs after Atlantis 900(0). The pillars of Hercules may have been in the area of Gibraltar/Gades/Tartessos/Huelva.
The shoal of "mud" is explained in our continental shift or pole shift/crust displacement theory which would have caused that in Atlantic, as is seen by sediments etc.

First, it's no secret that we all have searched far and wide for Atlantis. We were meant to be. It's not here or there, so to speak. It's more like the "kingdom of god"; it's inside all us searchers. It's a "virus" that attacks the soul (mind), and once fully infected, there is no cure known to man. But it's like Socrates says; only God knows…..where this Atlantis is. I would not even be surprised if people will soon start looking amongst the "stars" once we have searched all and each inch of the earth; hello Giorgio Tsoukalos. But perhaps there is hope at the "bottom" of this downwards "sunken" tunnel, as I see a little light on the other side. Then we can all be spared this trouble, and be cured, soon. Of course my optimism is only hopeful thinking, which is only a side effect of this virus of ours; we are all coming along and thinking that we can or, indeed, have found it.
Seeing how things have gone these past 2,500 years, I'm afraid that no one has hit the bull's eye, yet. Hell, we are not even hitting the target, period. Someone has even brought in Dante Alighieri and his Inferno, as if our search was not wild enough just dealing with Plato. Now we have to contend with two literary geniuses; as if Plato wasn't enough. But then again, Dante was just another Platonist; he caught the virus too. Does anybody really know which way the target is facing? I mean, besides the “fact” that it is “down” under? But perhaps there is some truth to your claim, or whoever was the clever one to be first in pointing out that Atlantis' capital is Tiahuanaco. And perhaps there is also the same amount of truth in regards to Dr. Kuhne's claim; as I said, who knows? But my instincts tell me that we need to keep looking; I'm using my mind's eye to see if I can find it, somehow. But I need inspiration besides my eye. And that's where I believe that all of you here on this blog can be a great help to me, as well as to us, as a whole. Don't you think so? Oh yes, we also, like Critias, besides Apollo and the Muses, need the Muses' mother to bless us, and remind us. Remind us to leave no stones unturned, (I mean every word, and any translation) and that modesty is not good for a needy man. Who knows, perhaps by sheer luck, someone will close one and all eyes, and then hurls a wild idea, and as God would have it, hit near the target. Although the target is not the “bull’s” eye itself, for those with Santorini on their minds, just yet. The God and gods are willing to help, but will not lead us by our noses; just by the ears. And we all do have big ears when it comes to Atlantis talk. As it is said, one can lead a mule to water, but cannot make us stubborn, “dumb” ½ asses drink. We are just too stubborn, are we not? “Atlantis” is not a myth, right? Anyway, “They” do want one or more of us, to hit the bull’s eye, after they point us in the right direction. Now just how deep and murky that water is, and whether or not we are willing to take a sip, that will determine our success, possibly. Hopefully it will not be just another dry water-hole in the desert, please. My mouth (mind) is dry enough already)

It is good that you will search, but don't dismiss ours without reading/(better) reasons. I have done my search for Atlantis and found it (though i still always stay open re-checking, and though there is some remaining peoples disbelief disputings that could be better answered). I have tried to show people the stark evidences (in my blog notes and in the other thread/topic of my own here ' Atlantis Tiahuanaco ' ) but i guess people just have to come to the disovery themselves their own way.
Atlantis can not be in Spain. Atlas mountains are in Africa on other side/landmass, etc. I will post a new rewriting of how Atlantis is narrowed down to Americas in my own thread.
p.s. Tartessos was based on Atlantis not Atlantis based on Tartessos.
Anyway sorry I do not want to be going off this thread's/topic's topic about Donana/Tartessos/("Atlantis").
Unlike Atlantis (for me at least) the search for Tartessos still goes on?
Until they release the Donana information we can only make our best guess whether Tartessos is there or at Huelva or elsewhere.
Tartessos seems to be most likely somewhere between Tinto & Guadalquivir, with the 2 best candidates as 1st Huelva/Tinto or 2nd Donana/Guadalquivir. There are seeming possible canals in that whole area between those 2 rivers. In favour of Huelva is Herucles place name there, and the plain, and other things. Herodotus said it was beyond Pillars? The pillars could be at either Messena, Gibraltar, Gades, Tartessos, Huelva, [Madeira (in I Donnelly's map)?]
Sites i looked at in my Tartessos search included:
Atlantis, Tardenois, Tarentaisian, Spartel island, *Turdetani*, Tinto &/or Huelva (herculis insula/herkleia, mountains, campina fertil, enormous harbour walls, stone staircases), Donana (dunes, circular feature), el carambolo (hill, gold hoard) &/or Seville ("sun temple") &/or Guadalquivir (canals), Gades &/or punta de la vaca (marble coffin), Xeres/Jerez, Tarshish, Ronda (hydraulic engineering/cyclopean ruins), Niebla (inland harbour/cyclopean ruins), Tortosa, Mt Montserrat (bull carved in stone), Scheria/Phaeacia, Tarhuntassa.

Thanks for sharing, Dr. Kühne, but its clear that you are looking for Tartessos, not Atlantis. Contrary to some opinions, they are not the same thing: Tartessos was not an island, it had no large flat rectangular plain, it did not have ten kings, two growing seasons, nor did it ever vanish into the sea or start any wars in the Mediterranean.
In fact, there are only superficial similarities: it was wealthy like Atlantis, hit with some tsunamis (as all coastal cities are) and is beyond the Pillars of Hercules. But Atlantis was an island, as Plato says, not an isthmus.

*********************** Toddler
to my time as a small child I have only a few memories. I was on 23. May 1970 as the first child is born.
My memory with the holiday on Gran Canaria in spring 1974. I learned about Stefanie Schneider know from Herford, a little more than a year older than I was. Their parents had the same hotel. Stefanie came visit me often and we played together. But I have never dared to visit them.
Petzi books from 1974 have read me my parents. 1975 You have taught me read and write. In December 1975 I read first time itself a 'Mickey Mouse book.
At the end of 1975 or the beginning of 1976 I met Melanie Bergstedt. I went alone with my sled toboggan. Suddenly, a girl to me on the carriage. So I learned Melanie know. They then came upon me two or three times a week and visit then we played outside. After a few months more often then you wanted to pause between playing and sweets suck, my mother had given us. The eternal breaks were boring to me in the long term. I wanted to play then no longer with Melanie. I told her the but not himself, but my mother say it again, as Melanie wanted to visit me. So that was our friendship ended, probably lasted three to six months. Today I am very sorry that I've so cowardly of Melanie.
******************************* For
elementary school
******************************* For
in August, 1976, a few days before my children start school, it was my brother Torsten was born. From now on I was no longer the center of the family.
Probably during the entire Elementary School 1976 - 1980 I was best-in-class. Also I was the favorite pupil of Mrs. Barth, in the first two years my Mathematik-Lehrerin and later my teacher was. My Zeugnisnotendurchschnitt in classes three and four was 1,444, 1,400, 1,555 and 1,444. I was especially good at mental arithmetic, in the "Eckenrechnen" I remained unbeaten.
I am actively involved at school. I was a quiet students. The different blabbering annoyed me my classmates during the class. In the breaks we played boys hide, catch and Autokriegen. Probably 1979 Nadine Kunkel said to me on my and we got chatting away from the other student, you took over the more active part. I was alone in the afternoon.
Motivated by the comics of the globe Petzi-Baren I began to scroll from 1976 in the Atlas mountains and the rivers of the earth, countries and to learn. I also paint peeling in a Tieratlas and a wicked giraffes, I had given my parents for Christmas.
I have the latest thrillers from 1978 by Wolfgang corner and Enid Blyton "mystery ... " read. From 1979 or 1980 was also Stefan Wolf "TKKG" added. During the reading of TKKG I noticed that the story as a film in my mind. After reading I could remember the plot but only in a fragmentary fashion. Perhaps this was a precursor of the "in Trance" in my later life.
From the end of 1979 I started for Astronomy (stars and planets) to care. This has been motivated by the last page of the world atlas, the astronomy. Same time I started to be interested in dinosaurs. This was motivated by a crown kit with dinosaurs in one of the last Sesamstraßen-issues I had read. I read for about an hour daily non-fiction books.
*********************** *********************** Step before deciding
step before deciding during the 1980 - 1982 I was still a good student, there were problems only in English. My Zeugnisnotendurchschnitt in grades five and six was 1,583, 1,727, 2,000 and 2,083. My behavior in the Schulpausen was as in the primary school. My swarm was my classmate Nicole Achterkerke. But I have never dared to speak to them. On the Monday before Lent 1982 Malte my classmate Andrea Langner about a half-hour's hearts on the cheek. An interpretation I is not detected.
At the end of 1980 I took my first cosmological considerations. The Universe was finite size? What was then the boundary? What was behind this limitation? There was a further room behind her and a further limitation? Or was the Universe
