Hello, Dark Shadows Fan,

ShadowGram (SG), The Official Newsletter & News Source for Dark Shadows (DS) announces the following key breaking news in this Official DS News Online Update "bulletin."

SG reports that JONATHAN (Barnabas, Bramwell) is included in a list of 9 Canadians nominated for the 2014 Cineplex Legends Award / Canadian Legends Award and placement of a “stylized maple leaf star” on Canada’s Walk of Fame in Toronto’s entertainment district.

The award is given each year by the Canada Walk of Fame Association.”This is a posthumous recognition of Canadian pioneers in film, television, music, “sports, literature, visual and performing arts, science and innovation.” The annual Legacy Award “is determined by public voting.”

Jonathan passed away April 14, 2012, at age 87. He was in a hospital in his hometown of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The SG Official DS News Online Updates and SG #122-#123 print newsletters have memorialized his life, career, and legacy.

From the  Canadaswalkoffame  website 4-1-14:

Mary O’Leary and Jonathan headed the Clunes Associates Production Company, which he founded in 1986. For more than a decade, he traveled across the U.S. and northeastern Canada, presenting his original one-man “Reader’s Theatre” shows. Performing at universities, colleges, theaters, libraries, auditoriums, schools, and other venues, he gave dramatic and comedic readings of classic and contemporary literature pieces. The wide range of selections came from the Bible, Shakespeare, Stephen King, Edgar Allen Poe, Groucho Marx, and others. Jonathan included his own commentaries, observations, and experiences as well. Proceeds from his shows benefited numerous charities.

His various programs thoughtfully explored many themes, ideas, history, philosophy, horror, and more. He used no props or effects, only a notebook with the written words, set upon a music stand in front of him. The readings came alive solely through his voice, gestures, facial expressions, tone, and interpretations of characters, settings, and moods. The programs showcased his many talents as an actor, storyteller, and director.

On March 31, Mary O’Leary had a phone interview with journalist Jeff Mahoney of the Hamilton Spectator, Jonathan’s hometown newspaper. The article should be in the newspaper within a few days. It is hoped the article will encourage people worldwide to vote often for Jonathan.

Because the actual publication date for the article is not announced, DS fans can check the Hamilton Spectator website daily:

**** A DS CONNECTION NOTE: One of the other 2014 Legend Award nominees is actor Lorne Green, best-known as “Ben Cartwright” in the classic 1960s Western TV series “Bonanza.” He also worked with Jonathan at the Toronto Shakespeare Festival in the 1950s.

SG encourages DS fans everywhere to share this complete ShadowGram Update # 314 so many others will visit the Walk of Fame website and Facebook Fan Page frequently during April to nominate Jonathan. (Those addresses are earlier in this Update.)

Whether or not he ultimately is chosen to receive the posthumous award, the honor brings attention to Jonathan’s accomplishments and talents on TV, stage, and in Readers’ Theater presentations, including “Dark Shadows” and much more.

**** The huge Double SG # 122-#123 is the newest Official DS Published Newsletter. Jonathan is remembered with photos, biographical information, and career highlights. He also is fondly and gently saluted by MARIE WALLACE (DS’ Eve, Jenny, Megan). Her unique perspective extends outside DS, as they were longtime friends. Jonathan directed a college stage production of “The Lion in Winter” in Milledgeville, Georgia, in which Marie starred. He earned a Masters in Fine Art in directing from the Yale School of Drama

The Double SG also features news and information direct from the DS cast/crew about their projects and activities, the DS Festival, and others involved in DS today. There are photos, announcements, reports, publicity materials, media coverage, and updates for recent / upcoming DS guest/fan gatherings, plus all the DS news and plans.
