Well when the inhabitants engaged in a nuclear war so many eons ago... the effects are an exposed surface to solar radiation corrosion.

To think in the days of Ezekiel there were oceans, land masses, humans, and other animals living on the surface.

Nulcear wars tend to change all that real fast.

The question lies why is Mars CO2 rich and plants are carrying on photosynthesis there and Mercury remains toxic and unihabitable ?

A trip to Venus would answer many of these questions.
