AIA Presents Lectures on Blackfriary Site
AIA Site Preservation award winner Stephen Mandal visited Boston last week to deliver two talks on the Blackfriary site in Trim, County Meath, Ireland. His lunchtime talk focused on the Cultural Heritage Amenity Town (CHAT) program, a new approach to community archaeology. In the evening he presented the excavation's findings on this Dominican monastery's role in the medieval town, its architecture, and bioarchaeological material. Learn more about Blackfriary here.
Upcoming Deadlines
Publication Grants: Applications for both the Samuel H. Kress Grants for Research and Publication in Classical Art and Architecture and the AIA Publication Subvention Program are due March 1, 2014. Complete instructions are available online.
Scholarships: Students preparing to participate in their first fieldwork project are encouraged to apply for the Jane C. Waldbaum Field School Scholarship by the March 1, 2014 deadline.
CPAC to Conduct Interim Reviews
of Italy and Colombia MoUs
CPAC will hold a closed meeting on March 13-14, 2014 to conduct interim reviews of these two Memoranda of Understanding. Public comments will be invited in the future should either or both of these bilateral agreements be proposed for extension. Learn more about these agreements.
Help AIA Create Thriving Opportunities for Students Pursuing Archaeological Research
To give students greater opportunities and to honor Past President Elizabeth Bartman's tremendous record of service to AIA, we are establishing a new scholarship program. The Elizabeth Bartman Museum Internship Program will help make it possible for deserving graduate students to intern in a museum with an archaeological collection, either in the United States or abroad.
To support tomorrow's archaeologists today, please call 617.353.8709 or click here. You can support this program, and all others at AIA, by registering for the AIA's automatic giving program. It's easy! Select the amount you wish to donate and AIA will charge your credit card on the date you choose each month.
You're Not Too Young to Plan Your Legacy!

2015 AIA Tours Schedule

Itinerary
AIA Tours are not designed for professional archaeologists, but for inquisitive travelers wishing to learn from experts who are chosen for both their knowledge and ability to deliver lively and informative talks.
AIA travelers enjoy learning firsthand about cultural history by viewing splendid archaeological sites, art, architecture, and museum collections. AIA travelers often find themselves in special meetings with local archaeologists and other professionals, taking behind-the-scenes tours, attending dance and musical performances, and browsing in galleries and local markets.
AIA Tours offers distinctive land-based trips, including a few easy to moderate hiking adventures, as well as cruises aboard small, elegant ships.
On our land-based trips, the average group comprises just 15 travelers. At each carefully-chosen hotel we avoid one-night stays whenever possible, instead staying two to four nights, for a trip pace that allows ample time to explore and absorb. Our accommodations provide comfort, charm, and proximity (wherever possible) to the important sites.
Cruises are aboard comfortable to luxurious small, yacht-like vessels with between 25 and 120 cabins; or aboard a lovely, 350-guest, mid-sized ship. Unpack once and travel with ease, docking in the heart of smaller, historic ports, close to each extraordinary site.
On land-based trips AND on cruises, expert trip managers handle all of the logistics, and professional local guides accompany all excursions, smoothing the way so that you can relax, learn, and enjoy the journey. All or most excursions and meals are included, as are many or most gratuities to staff you encounter along the way.
Full details for all AIA Tours are on this website, or you can call or email us and we will send you detailed brochures as soon as they are available. Also ask to receive our monthly e-newsletter that provides the latest information on destinations and special offers!
